What a hidden gem! The parking lot has plenty of space. The building is breathtaking, not just the double ended marble staircase! We were greeted by the nicest woman in Yankton and she explained the museum in great detail and that really starts the visit off right. This place is wheelchair friendly with an elevator and we even spotted a wheelchair by the stairs incase you brought grandma who can only walk for a bit. Lots of bathrooms and drinking fountains. One of the most interesting museums I've been to. It was $13 for one adult and one child. Gift shop has great local stuff for sale and there is a donation box in the back. No expense was spared in the construction of the building with granite block walls, terrazzo floors, hand painted details in the ceiling trays and a grand Italian marble staircase, the building is enough to draw you in. But the history inside will enhance your visit tremendously, with a brand new children's museum and Lewis and Clark exhibit as well as the entire Dakota Territorial Museum collection and Yankton College archives, I promise you will not leave...
