The lady at the gate was so kind when she checked us in. Gave us some tips to touring the park. There is so much to see and take in. One could spend days looking. We spent two and half hours one afternoon and two hours the next day.
The monuments are unreal. You are torn between wanting to take all pictures and just be in the moment. It’s hallowed ground and one can feel the suffering and anguish that the town and the soldiers went through.
Tips: If you have dogs, have for the BARK ranger tag. Watch the movie in the visitor center. There was information in that movie I had no idea. The Shirley House was closed at the time that we attended (1/3/25). However walk around and look. You won’t be disappointed. Download the NPS app and make sure to listen to the driving tour. This museum offered the perspective of the union, the confederate and the civilians living...

If we didn't we would not have known about the closure until we would have to turn around on a one way road. They could use some signs by the turn off out there on the route. The parking lot is on the small side but did have oversize vehicle spots that accommodate RVs (taking up two of those spots.) a very informative visitor center display, some amazing views, and a nice drive await. This site also has a Jr ranger program booklet for kids to complete...
