The lady at the gate was so kind when she checked us in. Gave us some tips to touring the park. There is so much to see and take in. One could spend days looking. We spent two and half hours one afternoon and two hours the next day.

The monuments are unreal. You are torn between wanting to take all pictures and just be in the moment. It’s hallowed ground and one can feel the suffering and anguish that the town and the soldiers went through.

Tips: If you have dogs, have for the BARK ranger tag. Watch the movie in the visitor center. There was information in that movie I had no idea. The Shirley House was closed at the time that we attended (1/3/25). However walk around and look. You won’t be disappointed. Download the NPS app and make sure to listen to the driving tour. There is no way you will see everything the first couple of times. You will for sure...

I am thankful we visited this historic site. The NPS has done a great job trying to teach the basics of the seige of Vicksburg through recreations/ models and interactive maps. The light up, audio wall map was very engaging and an excellent introduction prior to driving into/onto the battlefield. There is also a filmstrip which is presented in the same area as the map which gives the information. The film is scheduled and just begins on its own. The film and map are right inside the small museum space and seating is very limited. If you need to sit, get a seat and wait. We were fine standing.

This museum offered the perspective of the union, the confederate and the civilians living...

Visited during memorial day weekend. Friendly staff and rangers. Part of the tour route was closed due to erosion. We started in the visitor center first and talked to a park ranger. If we didn't we would not have known about the closure until we would have to turn around on a one way road. They could use some signs by the turn off out there on the route. The parking lot is on the small side but did have oversize vehicle spots that accommodate RVs (taking up two of those spots.) a very informative visitor center display, some amazing views, and a nice drive await. This site also has a Jr ranger program booklet for kids to complete...

First of all, this National Military Park is HUGE! Make sure you pick up the park map before you enter the site. You can either walk, hike, drive, or ride a bike. It's a 5 mile of historical adventure. Enjoy and immerse yourself in the nature and history at the same time.❣️❣️❣️❣️ A lot of choices of souvenirs. We bought the old contracts of stocks and lego-like toys for my families. Prices are reasonable.👍👍👍 We saw people bring fur babies in this park. Just make sure they are on leash. We brought our fur babies, too. And I can't imagine if they got lost in this 1,800 acres national park. Leash is for their safety.😘😘😘😘😘
