Little Island Park is a fine place to fish off the pier, surf, swim, sunbathe and simply enjoy the natural beauty and serenity of this beach. That said the reopening in phase 2 of the pandemic and observable compliance with CDC guidelines is poor imho. I recently arrived from Atlanta where matters are even worse. Fortunately, outdoor activities are not as risky as indoor. Still it would be better if businesses would play by the rules. For instance, The parking attendant here wore no mask while leaning in from three feet max to complete transactions with credit cards AND cash. Further, What was touted online as 50 percent capacity parking only, clearly was not. The lot was full; we waited twenty minutes to enter. And altho the sign posted upfront said lot full, the tracking mechanism said 45 spots available. Why the contradiction? Just blatantly lie to us! I suppose people did the best they could social distancing on the beach. But with 500 or more gathered ( according to the attendant!) the chances of transmission go up where a mask is either inconvenient or simply ignored. If cases spike in this area, Sandbridge ought to be looked at as a magnet for COVID-19. It’s shameful that individuals and institutions care more about their desires than their actual needs and the overall wellness of the community. Yet, people also bristle at more government intervention. Then police yourselves! You can’t have it both ways. A really sad and dangerous situation and the clearest commentary on the decline of civil society and the public spirit in American cultures. The Commonwealth is not exempt. I expected better from...
Read moreA large part of me wanted to rate this beach 1⭐ so that maybe other people wouldn't go there, but I can't honestly do that. This is a fantastic beach, with 2 bathroom buildings, multiple showers, lots of parking, a playground, covered picnic areas, and short walks to the beach.
The parking lot here has to be at least double the parking that is available at the main beach lot, and this beach is overall a lot better. I'm sure it must be a madhouse during tourist season, bc of all of the vacation rentals in the area. Even still, it is worth the try. Cannot stress how good this beach is.
If I had to pick one thing that wasn't quite ideal, it's that the walkways to the beach are just sand paths. It probably isn't a big deal for most, but for anyone with mobility issues, it adds extra distance onto the difficult part of making it to the beach. I was able to traverse it with my cane, but it...
Read moreWas there a couple weeks ago and it would have been nice to be able to have access to the front of the pier but a group of guys monopolized the entire front and had apparently been there all day, there was a spot occupied by about 10 poles not even being used where a couple people could have been fishing. Consequently this was the only area (up front) having good fishing everyone back of the line not much...
