Sandpiper Beach — Attraction in Virginia Beach

This is an all time favorite beach! Very laid back and cheap parking especially for Virginia Beach residents. During the off season it’s free and hardly used. Summer and spring the traffic begins to pick up and can actually fill the lot so get there early.

The pier is good fun for young kids and offers a variety of fish to catch.

This is very close to a national wildlife refuge with great walking trails.

LOOOVEEE this beach! I live in Newport News and my husband agreed that if we want to spend a whole day at the beach it is worth the hour drive to go to sandpiper. The waves are great, they have a bathhouse and an outdoor shower to rinse off. Lots of wildlife in the water so just be aware of your surroundings. We saw flounders, baitfish, and quite a few baby stingrays. When we first got there in the morning, there were about 15 dolphins swimming just beyond us. Parking is $3 for VB residents and $5 for us. THE POSITIVE: Pleasant setting at the beach-side, clean and comfortable. Plenty of space to set-up and relax. Very attentive life-guards and EMS staff presence was reassuring of security and emergency response. AREA FOR IMPROVEMENT: Recommend park staff to set regulations on music with excessive profanity/obscenities during rented events, if already in place, someone needs to monitor and enforce.
