This is an all time favorite beach! Very laid back and cheap parking especially for Virginia Beach residents. During the off season it’s free and hardly used. Summer and spring the traffic begins to pick up and can actually fill the lot so get there early.
The pier is good fun for young kids and offers a variety of fish to catch.
This is very close to a national wildlife refuge with great walking trails.

Read moreLOOOVEEE this beach! I live in Newport News and my husband agreed that if we want to spend a whole day at the beach it is worth the hour drive to go to sandpiper. The waves are great, they have a bathhouse and an outdoor shower to rinse off. Lots of wildlife in the water so just be aware of your surroundings. Very attentive life-guards and EMS staff presence was reassuring of security and emergency response.
