Great place to park and walk the Appomattox River Trail. The first part is paved and makes a great short walk to a pedestrian bridge with great views of the River and wildlife. If you want a longer walk, keep going until you hit the old railroad bridge about 1.5 miles down the trail. It's peaceful and quiet most of the time. Recommended in Spring or Fall. Read moreAmazing partly paved trail with incredible views of a variety of class 2 to class 4 rapids, historic merchants dam, historic mills, a centuries old aqueduct, an old pump house, and towering historic bridge that Amtrak uses. An bridge over a class 4 rapid and the dam connects you to the unpaved portion. So cool!

The trail is paved for about a quarter mile and then runs as a typical hiking trail for another 2 and a half-ish miles to an impassable bridge. Not sure if you can wade across the creek but it looks like the trail continues beyond...
