Amazing partly paved trail with incredible views of a variety of class 2 to class 4 rapids, historic merchants dam, historic mills, a centuries old aqueduct, an old pump house, and towering historic bridge that Amtrak uses. An bridge over a class 4 rapid and the dam connects you to the unpaved portion. So cool! PS. The FOLAR group has completely revitalized the unpaved portion of the trail and it is no longer narrow and overgrown!

Great little walk along the river that has lots of points of interest along the way, and definitely worth a visit from anywhere in the Greater Richmond area. The trail is paved for about a quarter mile and then runs as a typical hiking trail for another 2 and a half-ish miles to an impassable bridge. Not sure if you can wade across the creek but it looks like the trail continues beyond that bridge.

I come down to this trail quite often, because the Appomattox River is beautiful, and always changing. Today it was raining off and on, and I came down because I thought the river would be raging and churning. Instead, it was calm and peaceful, and made for a lovely hike. In the video, shot in one of my favorite spots, you can't even hear the traffic on the nearby road. Just nature.

Great place to park and walk the Appomattox River Trail. The first part is paved and makes a great short walk to a pedestrian bridge with great views of the River and wildlife. If you want a longer walk, keep going until you hit the old railroad bridge about 1.5 miles down the trail. It's peaceful and quiet most of the time. Recommended in Spring or Fall. In Summer, it gets overgrown, buggy, and there are loads of snakes around, poisonous...
