We stopped in here on a family camping trip and had a good time. The docent said that they have more displays to add, but we didn't feel like anything was lacking. The displays are interactive and engaging.
Everything is very clean, the views are amazing, and the staff is very knowledgeable. I also thought The Gift Shop was a nice little selection of relevant, interesting things.
What I especially liked was that the staff remember we spoke to made a point of telling us that they are our Native American and African-American and displays in the works. She specifically said, "Hands that built our nation are hands that built our nation." When the displays talked about local tribes attacking settlers, they made a point to say why the tribes were in conflict instead of painting them as dangerous primitive people. Read moreInformative, well organized, good place to spend half an hour. I visited on the day after Thanksgiving and was outnumbered by the two very helpful staff 😂. The brief introductory video is helpful for people unfamiliar with the Wilderness Road. The exhibits do an excellent job conveying the dangers and difficulties early migrants faced. The indigenous peoples are also featured since they had used the route long before whites ‘discovered’ it. The only reasons I rated the interpretive center a 4 star attraction are 1) families might find children bored if tour guides aren’t on duty and 2) those familiar with the era like me, may wish more depth...
