Went to Fort Loudoun Saturday afternoon to have a look around with the kids. It's a replica of a British fort built in 1756. It's a well maintained state park on the Tellico Reservoir. It has walls with cannon placements as well as firing placements. It has barracks, gaurd houses, blacksmith shop, armory, powder house, indian structures, and numerous fortifications. You explore everything freely on your own. There are also numerous trails and beaches. It's an excellent place to spend an afternoon exploring. The views of the lake and nearby mountains are amazing. In addition to the fort there is a visitors center with a museum and theater. Numerous artifacts from the original fort are in the museum. Lots of interactive displays and scale models of the fort and it's armorments. There is also a historian there to answer questions. A large gift shop has souvenirs and t-shirts. There's numerous other things that pertain to the fort. This is an excellent place to spend an afternoon with the family. It's absolutely free but a donation is appreciated. There's plenty of free parking and picnic areas. I highly recommend a visit to Fort Loudoun State...

This move helped to ally the Overhill Cherokee Nation in the fight against the French and guaranteed the trade would continue between the Cherokee and...
Read moreAlways super fun to go here! We go every year when we are in town for vacation. They have a dock (about 4 boats can fit) and even though my mom isn't good at docking we still got tied up without too much trouble. They also have a canoe launch. I like to get souvenirs from here because they have a large selection of books for sale and also some other neat gifts. The fort itself is really stunning and it is kept up great. Super fun to go into the buildings and up on the parapet! The last two times I have been they have had an actor dressed up and outside available for photos and conversation, which I always think is a wonderful touch. The staff inside the museum/shop is very friendly and...
