It was pouring rain but since I'm on vacation, I went to this historic site as planned. To my surprise, the trail to the fort is paved from the parking lot to the entrance of the fort. This fort, the entire park is very well maintained. This park is surrounded by the river, which provides a beautiful view. There is a picnic area and trails throughout the park. I have a couple of friends who love history. I went into the visitors center with my pups to pick up some info on the park. I was greeted by a group of very friendly employees there and they even let me enjoy the museum with my pups. They were so nice and helpful. The museum was interested with my artifacts and they even have a 12 minute video on the history of the fort. This part is pet friendly and I'm not sure if the visitors center is always petfriendly, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Maybe it is because I visited in November when it wasn't busy that they made an exception for me to allow my pups in the building. Generally, pets, except for service animals, are not allowed inside buildings. Please bring some cash for donations. This park is free but they need donations to keep this park well maintained. If you love history, I highly recommend. I love visiting historic sites, and even when pouring, this park was still nice to visit. The paved trails keep my shoes and my dogs from getting muddy. If you have a boat, canoe, there is a boat ramp by the...
Read moreTook my Pyr and Lab on a hike. I felt comfortable by myself. Started at beginning of Meadow loop trail. Got to fork in road to continue the meadow loop or take the lost shoe fork. Chose the lost shoe fork. Eventually came to another fork fir continuing Meadow loop or hit the ridge rock trail. Took the ridge rock trail. Glad I did. Pleasant clean. Just a few obstacles of downed trees had to walk around or over. Glad I brought water as well. Pups were very thirsty as I. We stopped a couple of times to hydrate. Met a few folks on passing. Everyone is so nice. It was a long haul for me keep two big dogs corralled on a leash when they are used to running their own course. We finished up at the museum. Took us about 1.5 hrs at that point. Took pups down to lake to cool off. Then the last leg of hike had to get back to truck. Ugh!!! We were dragging but made it. Not sure how many miles tharmt was but could be close to 4.5 miles. Brouggt pups home they had a shower a treattgen dinner and haven't moved since haha. Great place to get your steps in!! Highly recommend. I'm going by myself next time so I can...
Read moreFort Loudoun was a British fort located in what is now Monroe County, Tennessee. Constructed from 1756 until 1757 to help garner Cherokee support for the British at the outset of the French and Indian War, the fort was one of the first significant British outposts west of the Appalachian Mountains.
At the park, they have a great visitor center with several artifacts and some wonderful displays about the fort and its history. Also inside the visitor center, they have a short film that tells the overall history of the fort and area that is shown on demand. They also have a full reconstruction of the fort behind the visitor center with more displays. Everything is very well done.
The park staff is very friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit here. I highly recommend a visit here to learn more about the history of it. Also, they have a few hiking trails and offer camping as well. The park is located next to the Little Tennessee River so boating and swimming, etc. are other activities...
