Pioneer Park is special for so many reasons. As you walk within the splendor, you are surrounded by large and diverse trees, some are record holders. Between the many trees are ample open lawns perfect for yoga, playing games, or simply taking a rest. There is a beautifully restored fountain that at night gets lit up with colored lights. If you feel like a bit of bird watching you can walk across to the amazing aviary that has a very diverse collection of duck's, birds, peafowl, even sime amphibians. If you feel like a walk around the water while gazing at the giant koi, turtles, and wild ducks, then you are in for a treat. There is a gorgeous ROSE GARDEN, AN AVIARY, DUCK POND, PICNIC AREAS, PING PONG TABLES, TENNIS COURTS AND SOFTBALL FIELDS. This park offers alot of area to play, stroll or just sit and listen to the birds, ducks and wind through the trees. It appears to be a very well maintained park and there are plenty of restrooms kept in clean shape. There are sculptures, monuments and statues to study and grassy knolls to lie on. We were extremely impressed on this, our first visit. To a child, there are all kinds of adventures to be had at this park. For adults, there is calm, soothing sights and sounds of nature to relish. Read moreSoak up the shady peace in this amazing park. Pioneer Park is a jewel nestled in Walla Walla, a green and clean place to enjoy the quiet alone or picnic with friends and family. The only thing keeping it from a five star rating is the kids play equipment. Oddly enough, the one place that needs shade the most has practically none. Many years ago, the swings were placed facing east-west and were shaded during the hottest part of the day. Now the swings are located on the north end of the playground area facing north-south and get no shade whatsoever. My son could not even sit on the seats because they were so hot, and it was only 11 AM. If you want to let your kids use the playground this summer, stick to early morning.
