What a magical and cute place for kids/families to hangout. Lindsay wildlife museum offers a great educational and recreational experience for kids, and families. Located on N Main St in Walnut creek right opposite Friends Church, it's very easy to commute and find parking spaces. You can park in the complex, on the streets and the church has additional parking for museum visitors. Inside, you get to experience a lot of educational content about wildlife, see birds and small mammals in action. Some of the museum residents don't have the capability to survive by themselves in the wild - these precious beings need human help to survive and they double up to be ambassadors for the museum visitors. We loved every single area in the museum with the favorite being the bald eagle, and guinea pig section. We saw bunch of bunnies, guinea pigs and they were adorable! Right next to the museum is a swim center, and a park. This park is super well maintained, has lot of play areas of kids, lot of picnic tables and is buzzing with activity. I highly recommend this gem in the east bay for families with kids!!! Very very productive and constructive experience. Oh - the staff at Lindsay wildlife are AMAZING! They work super hard for the welfare of the animals are super passionate about it. A+++

Honestly, so so sad and heartbroken and disappointed. I brought them a baby opossum not too long ago thinking that they would save it because they kept reassuring me over the phone that they were a wildlife group why would they just kill it. When that’s exactly what they did. The possum was fine. Just dehydrated and hungry because I was having a hard time feeding it but was still eating, they kept telling me oh, they couldn’t guarantee me that they would save it because they need a 50% chance to live or whatever. They literally didn’t even try and just ended up killing him as soon as I left. And on top of that when I brought the opossum to them, the lady snatched him out of my hands saying that I was hurting him. Hurting him? I’ve been taking care of him for three days. I’m so so sad still and still wish I had just kept him and had more support at home to have to have kept him and hydrated him. He had a great chance of survival. There was nothing wrong with him. They just didn’t wanna put the time and effort in. Such a scam. If you find a possum or any wildlife I highly recommend you join a Facebook group for possums or the type of animal you have. They have great resources and great people that are truly doing great things , I hope this helps. You know that that little animal came to you for a reason. Forget these mentally abusive people here in California. God bless. These photos are taken the day I took him in and 30 mins before I dropped him off. I still want to cry when I see his little beautiful face. 😢 I’m so sorry little baby…

Lindsey wildlife museum is one of the hidden gems of the east bay area. I've watched this place change and develop over 30 years ( it used to be free and in a barn/ utility building, now it 15$ per adult.) Their mission is rescue & rehabilitate California native wildlife. Broadly speaking if it can be released after healing/rehabbing it, it is. Keeping in mind, some creatures like tiger salamanders are fairly happy to live in a terrarium and don't really care if they are living in the wild, as long as their needs are met. Some of the things I'd not seen since the last time I was there was a Calistoga spider ( a smaller but far more ferocious cousin of our native tarantulas) and a pallid bat who has arthritis and doesn't fly anymore. Their raptors are the main attraction. All their birds of prey have some reason they cannot be released back into the wild. Ie their one winged great horned owl. By far the most impressive animal is a bald eagle who's 25 years or so. Most people don't realize how big the are when viewed from a few hundred meters away. From 10 feet, it's a different story. Build in about 90 minutes. Definitely a place to check out doubly so if you have kids in the 5-15 range.

Awesome place to go to but it is pretty pricey for what you get. However I would recommend every local person attend, it is amazing the work they do for the animals. There is a behind the scenes vet room, you can see many birds of prey up close. There are all sorts of critters in nice cages, play room, animal make believe stuff, movie documentaries, experts, opportunities to touch certain animals. They had a porcupine the last time we went in August 2018. I love the owls, they're my favorite! There's also an eagle, pretty awesome! All the animals are rescued, many are returned back to the wild, but the ones who can't survive are kept here or sent to a zoo. There is also a really nice park attached to it called Larkey Park. There are bathrooms inside the facility, they are nice, and drinking water. Outside there are also bathrooms as you walk down the path toward the park. There is also a walking trail that heads out from the park, too. And there is an amazing swimming pool and splash area. So if you want to come for the day you can bring a whole picnic thing, water gear, and some cash and you'll have an amazing fun day!

Where else, other than Hogwarts, can you see so many gorgeous owls? The owls are my favorite but there are also other raptors including a bald eagle, snakes, possums and more, all native California creatures that have been rescued due to injury or other issues. It's relatively small, but very accessible for the younger set. The interactive exhibits were especially popular with the 3-10 year olds. The 3 and 5 year olds with me really enjoyed the veterinary dress up area where they engaged in an extended imaginative play session. They also have really interesting presentations throughout the day. While we were there we watched volunteers and a vet do the health intake exam on a family of baby squirrels whose nest had fallen from a tree. It's attached to a nice park with a playground and plenty of room for picnicking. If you find a wild bird or creature in distress this is the place to take them!
