It's very "2.5". Not horrible but not amazing. The food is decent , the drinks will pass standard tests and the atmosphere is an inflated dive bar. The comical part is when the "paid patrons" (aka employees) attempt to act like they're working a high volume club. From "door guys" to bartenders - they need to comprehend their placement in the industry . If you were on the strip in Vegas then it'd be understandable why you'd float around with the smug , segregating persona that makes the clear statement: "we are in control of your experience" that this "pool hall" has embarrassingly adopted. But since it's WALNUT CREEK and you seldomly fill even a quarter of the capacity here , I recommend honing in on creating a better customer experience rather than making it obvious to every guest that you're merely struggling & surviving your shift. For some odd reason, the "cocktail waitresses/waiters" are the saving grace of this place. They have somehow gathered a pretty decent understanding of what it means to put on a face and provide quality service even if it's just for a tip. We don't care if you mean it - just make us believe you do. So again I state that this place is worth "blah" stars. Since we can't give 1/2 stars I graciously gave them 3 rather than 2 bc of the hustle the cocktail...

I love this bar! They have awesome food on their menu, great service, and fun specials throughout the week.
Anytime I meet someone who is in town visiting or looking for a fun place to go out, I suggest Masses first. They have lots of pool tables and tons of TVs. It's fun to watch games here but can get really busy, so it's good to show up early if there's a big game you plan to stay and watch.
Happy hour is always fun too - the bar isn't far from where I work so it's a nice place to meet up with friends at 5. My favorite HH menu item is the fried green beans. They are perfect for sharing and so crispy and delicious!! From time to time I drop in for lunch. Firecracker shrimp are so good! They really have a great menu and good deals on their food. Tuesday evenings you can get $1 tacos and cheap beer or margaritas. My husband and I agree they have the best chicken wings in the area and they are only $0.50 on Wednesdays. Those are my favorite nights of the week here!
The bar is family-owned and you can tell its run with love. Staff do a great job making you feel welcome and keeping...
Read moreMasses is a local legend. There is everything under the sun that's fun here for all ages (21+ after 9pm). They're known for having a rock solid bar staff, 9 full size pool tables, ping pong, indoor bocce ball, private party rooms, pop shot, ski ball, darts and TouchTunes. Those reasons to visit often overshadow where Masses truly shines: the freshly prepared and consistently delightful food. Fine dining at a sports bar. It's obvious the chef and cooks care deeply about quality, freshness and offering a diverse menu. Everything I've tried has been wonderful, and my current favorite is the Tri Tip Cobb salad with honey mustard dressing. Daily food and drink specials. Free pool sundays, half off wings Wednesdays, BOGO burger fridays are standouts. The rest is on their website.
Thanks Masses for continuing to be a unique, special and different establishment. As a unique, special and different person it sure feels like home to me. And I'm definitely not...
