I went to this school from 3rd-12th grade and from my first week there I was bullied by students and ignored by teachers. Of course, I was a straight A student and they didn't ignore that - but when a boy spit in my face walking out of class in 6th grade and I reported it to my teacher, I was asked what I had done to provoke it. When I was kicked intentionally on the kickball field and my knee was so torn up that I still have scars 10+ years after that incident - my teacher stood by the side and watched me walk myself to the office. The stories could go on and on.
But, beyond that kind of abuse that I suffered there, I was not given many opportunities to succeed either. I loved math and science, but was actually refused help from a math teacher when I needed help understanding a concept. I was told by bible teachers that my questions about faith made me a pagan. When I decided to go to a prestigious school for college, I was again called pagan because it was a women's college. My history classes never made it past World War 2. My health classes never included what high school health is infamous for but also needed for - sexual education. Other students were told by teachers to accept the fact that they wouldn't ever succeed.
I would never under any circumstances want to send my child here or to a private Christian school after my experience at CCC.
And for those who will wonder to themselves: I still call myself a Christian - but it is in spite of this school and not because of it. I also don't hate every teacher - I still speak very good Spanish because of one particular teacher and have a deep love of the written word because of another. These were the exceptions to the rule, though. And yes, at least one of the teachers who contributed to my negative experience still teaches there.
My physical scars have not healed and neither have the other scars that were inflicted on me at this institution. And I know I'm not the only one - perhaps just the only one...
Read moreI moved my kids here from a nearby Lamorinda school district, and this school has exceeded my expectations.
Its a smaller school where everybody is very friendly and it feels like a family here. The lunch is so much better than the pathetic food from public school, as kids get to pick and choose from a wide variety of options every week. Multiple field trips and outings every semester for enrichment and the sports programs are well organized so kids with different talents can participate.
The academic competitiveness is not as intensive as those elite private schools that's costing $50k a year, but its definitely challenging enough to keep my daughter engaged in the classroom, given that her state exam result is a couple years above grade level. Most importantly she made friends here who regard learning as a priority.
The teachers are very engaging and parents get detailed weekly update on their kids academic progress. If they missed a homework, I am automatically notified on the same day by their system.
The school also has a well diversified student population. Kids are very well disciplined here, which is very important for an excellent studying and growing environment. I met many parents who are enthusiastic about devoting and contributing to their kids' education while volunteering in school activities.
Overall I recommend this school, especially if you are sick and tired of the California public schools and want your kids to thrive in a safe and friendly...
Read moreEnrolling our daughter at Contra Costa Christian School is the best decision we have made. I never thought our daughter would ever go to a private school. My wife and I both attended public school and had good experiences. That was years ago though and it’s sad to say, our public schools are not what they used to be. We made the decision last year to switch from the Mt. Diablo school district to CCCS. We were lucky she had a good elementary school, but were worried about middle school. Our daughter is in 5th grade now at CCCS and loving her new school. I can’t say enough about how great Contra Costa Christian School is. Small class sizes, great teachers, and a very welcoming and comfortable environment. Our daughter loves her class and teacher. She just told me the other day, “We are sad when school is over.” I asked, “Who was sad?” She said, “My class and I. We love school and don’t want to leave.” I was so happy. I know a new school can be very hard on a kid. Not at CCCS. It has been a great 5 months and we are looking forward to the years to come. Thank you to the Students, Teachers, Staff and Parents for welcoming us into...
