The only reason, I'm giving this one star. Is because it's not fair, that the Warwick police close this place down at all different hours. If it says open till 8:00 p.m! Then it should be 8:00 p.m! Not 6 or 7 it should be 8. I mean nowadays everybody has a phone and uses the internet. And if I Google something and it says 8:00 p.m. some people drive all the way down here 20 minutes away. I mean I live right down here so it's not a big deal to me. I'm the type of person that looks up beaches and parks to walk around with my dog. And if it says it's open and I drive all the way there and it's not open I'd be pretty pissed off. So either update your website on what time and don't have the Warwick police do it at all different times. Because some nights I'll drive through there at 10:00 p.m. and there's nothing locked up. But most nights it's closed before 6. It doesn't matter here nor there I just think they should update their website or not close it until 8:00. LMAO sorry it's a novel I love sharing my 💭. I'm at least hoping it will help somebody out from a drive. If they...
Read moreOakland Beach is a neighborhood in Warwick, RI. It was booming in the 1930s; there were summer cottages, restaurants, bowling alley, movie theater, an arcade, etc. After the hurricane in 1938, it destroyed the booming neighborhood.
The area is beautiful with the view of Narragansett Bay. However, the neighborhood is a little run down in some areas. I rented a cottage for a year in this neighborhood so I experienced the nitty gritty. I loved walking in the neighborhood and going to Iggy's. There are nicer parts within this area. The area I rented had some sketchy/weird characters; especially at night. I think this area has some potential; they need to upgrade the houses and bring in some more businesses. The beach is rundown and dirty but it is a nice spot to fish and take in the ocean view. There is a paved trail which is a nice walk in the warmer months. I hope to see this neighborhood brought to what it was like in the 1930s; sounds like it was thriving in...
Read moreIt's an awesome place to visit with lots of potential for real business opportunities that revolve around the whole family for fun. Other than that, I Wish more out if towners picked up after themselves instead of leaving trash for everyone else to pick up. This is our home, please respect that. Few other problems for us is Iggys being greedy and buying all the land in the beach, trying to take it over. Which, whoever allowed that to happen sucks. Because we would rather have other family owned businesses come in giving us options!
Out of Towners from other states buying up any piece of property they can to build god awful homes for stupid money abd look so out of place. And turning homes into bed and breakfasts here, only thinking about their pockets and not us natives born and raised here.
Other than all of that and the floods. It's a great...
