My experience at Maranatha was short-lived. When I reported harassment from a professor, I was laughed at by the dean of women and told I was lying. Before I left I was told that I, “hadn’t prayed enough about it” and that I didn’t know what God was wanting me to do. While still attending MBU, on a tour where we were traveling from state to state for our dept I became very ill and told the professor I needed to see a doctor, and the prof said, “That’s not an emergency, just drink some water.” Got back to school after a week, immediately went to the doctor (of which I had to be chaperoned for) and found out I had pneumonia and asthma (I had never been diagnosed with asthma before this.) Were I see them struggle, I think they emphasize corporate ideals more so than individual application based on biblical truth that relates to the student body as a whole, but since my freshman year I have seen this gap begin to narrow with some of the changes they have made and the new staff that have come on board. I think MBU has the opportunity to becoming a great University and it already has done a lot of great things to get there. Time will show whether or not they succeed and...
Read moreMaranatha is a small conservative Christian college where the the commands and principles of the Bible are used to guide their education. Students are held to a number of rules, however, they are not as restrictive or controlling as many equivalent Christian colleges. With their regional accreditation and positive standing in national school comparisons, students graduating from Maranatha are competitive in the job market. Maranatha offers a variety of degrees in Education, Music, Ministry, Nursing, Business, and other fields as they are able. Students also have an opportunity to participate in sports, ROTC, drama, and ministry in local churches. The school isn't perfect, but it offers young Christian men and women and opportunity to obtain higher education and prepare themselves for their future career while strengthening their walk...
