Let me start by saying that this place played a huge role in my childhood, with happy memories of my dad taking my brother and I for sweets. I have tried to instill the same joy in my own daughter, but somewhere along the line over the years, I'm sad to say Half Nuts has lost its way. I visited a couple of months ago. My husband and I grabbed a few things; candy and a mixture of nuts. We were disappointed to find the nuts stale, and the Strawberry gummy candy was very hard.
I stopped in again today to pick up some salt water taffy at my husband's request. There were many flavors to choose from, so I took one of each! When we opened the bag tonight to taste, every one was stale and too hard to chew. We threw them away. I also purchased a fruit roll that, once opened, emitted a foul smell and was clearly many months (if not years) expired. I had to move this out to the trash outdoors as we could still smell it in the kitchen bin. "Farley's The Roll" should be removed from their selection promptly.
After two failed visits, I am convinced that their inventory is not being turned over and perhaps business is not that great. This place has been around for years and as much as I would love to continue purchasing here, I think I may just leave it as a great...
Read moreThis is such a cool place to go. They are very reasonably priced, but also have some more higher end candies and nuts, too.
To begin with, they have an extensive selection of nuts and nut mixes. They selection is great and you can buy as little or as much as you want. Everything from spicy to more traditional is there.
I've purchased their holiday mixed nut mix for several years as a thank you to some of the folks who help me all year as well as for holiday entertaining -- and everyone loves it. The nuts are pretty fresh and taste great.
They have a great candy selection, too. A lot of oddball candies here from the youth of those who grew up in the 80s and 70s, but also some more modern-day candy. I love all the different flavors of candy corn, and they have a lot of them. Again, prices are reasonable, but you can buy boxed candy that goes for a little more, as well.
The place is clean, smells good and the folks who work there are very nice and accommodating. It definitely should be on every foodie's...
Read moreMy review is for their online shop, I have never been to the actual store. I recently visited online to buy candy raisins (back in production, but only sold in bulk and not available through the candy maker's, Lake Country Candy, online store at this time). Shipping costs were a little high, so I decided to order some extra items to see if I could even out the shipping costs and in addition to the candy raisins, I bought Swedish Fish, fruit slice candy, some smoked almonds and a few candy sticks. Shipping was only a bit higher when ordering many items, so I purchased and used their lowest cost shipping. I was absolutely thrilled when my items arrived 3 days later and all items were fresh and delicious. Additionally, I received a small shipping refund since I used Amazon payments when checking out (a nice surprise). I would highly recommend Half Nuts and will use them again the next time I'm craving...
