I'd give this Relax the Back a hundred stars if I could.
Let me begin at the beginning. My wife herniated a disc badly a couple of years ago and my mother got her a Perfect Chair to help. My wife loved the Perfect Chair dearly; it traveled with us from Boston to Connecticut. When we needed to travel within Connecticut, we needed to figure out how to transport the chair--- and that was where this branch of Relax the Back came in.
Doug (the owner) and Kendall came to move the chair for us. They were friendly, competent, and helpful. In chatting with Doug, it became clear that he had thought about back issues deeply---which led me to gently bring up my own back problem with him. I had tweaked a disc a year back and it had taken forever to heal. Even a year later, a long drive (and I was doing many, many long drives) would leave my leg and lower back in deep pain and I would be reduced to limping. I had thought about it and concluded that the problem was the absence of lumbar support in my car seat---my back was essentially slouching in thin air.
Doug became animated. "Those car seats in the Hyundai are terrible. There's no reason driving should be painful. Go take a look at what we have in our truck." There were two car seats fit into the car seats there; Doug explained that these were calibrated to the individual back and that if I was interested, I'd need to come to the office for a fitting. If I didn't find it helped, I could return the Sacro-ease (as it was called), no questions asked, for my money back.
We were there the next day (I had decided I couldn't face another long drive without some solution). The Sacro-ease was calibrated to my back and installed in the car. Doug asked me to try it and then stopped me. "You've got a pelvic twist." I was sitting wrong in the car seat; my right side---where the issue was---was just twisting forward, leaving me prone to lumbar pain. It was a legacy of that tweaked disc. "You need to check your alignment," Doug continued---and proceeded to show me how to do that.
I drove many, many miles after this. There was no pain. Fixing my alignment (and I started doing that in regular chairs too) and installing the new car seat LITERALLY saved my back.
I thought this over and it occurred to me that we'd had an extraordinary experience. Here was someone who was genuinely willing to take the time to hear about our back problems and offer a potential solution. He didn't insist on it; we had the option of our money back if it didn't work. He took the time---from a very, very busy day---to show me patiently and clearly how to sit. AND IT WORKED. Most doctors don't take that much time with their patients. Doug's care, professionalism, and expertise were a boon to us.
Since then, going to Relax the Back in West Hartford for our needs has been a no-brainer. When we needed a new mattress, when we needed an office chair or desk, we knew we could trust them. Kendall, Jah, and Betty have always been kind and helpful. There is no praise that is too high for this store. They made driving possible again; they made it possible for me to sit without being in pain again; and they did it in the kindest possible way. I will always be...

I suffer from near-debilitating pain from spinal stenosis and sciatica and add to that myopathy that resulted from a five-month hospital stay. Finding relief was an ongoing and frustrating challenge. I'm 6'4", weigh 240 lbs., and was searching for a chair that provided firm support, heat, zero gravity position, lumbar support, button controls, quality, and most importantly, would fit my height and body proportions. After shopping Ethan Allen, Crate & Barrel, Raymour & Flanigan, La-Z Boy, Ashley, Serta, Costco, Macy's, and many other stores, we found nothing that delivered the relief I was desperate to find. As frustrating, the customer service was sorely lacking in those stores - selling me a chair was more important than meeting my needs. We recently moved to West Hartford and driving down Farmington Ave decided to stop in. Jesse greeted us and gave us time to walk the store then approached us asking what we were looking for and why. He then had me try several chairs. There was no rush, no hawking us, no pressure, and he allowed us to take time sitting in each chair; then we were shocked to find the chair! Jesse jumped right in to provide us with chair details, colors, inventory, warranty, delivery dates, and everything we could imagine needing to ensure it was the right choice. We left the store without buying to discuss the purchase. Jesse followed up with a phone call to ensure we had what was needed but did not assert any pressure. Shortly after, we returned to make the purchase. Jesse wasn't in, but Betty, the store manager, greeted us warmly and had me again sit in the chair - I was momentarily disappointed as the chair wasn't as long as I recalled, but Betty recommended another chair that I sat in for 30ish minutes. The Human Touch Gravis is the chair of the century. Betty followed up via phone to confirm all chair details and to schedule delivery. We had special needs which made the purchase/delivery somewhat unusual - Betty listened and made the accommodations without hesitation. Wow! Customer service still exists. The chair arrived a few days later by a gentleman who knew the chair inside and out and the owner. Quite surprised to have the owner arrive and help with the set-up. It's clear he gets great satisfaction from seeing his customers smile.
These are chairs of the highest quality and the prices reflect what you'd expect; the experience, service, and personalization made them worth every penny. I can't thank the team for the gift of comfort, thank you! A bed is next on the list... Nick &...
Read moreMy husband I are could not be more pleased with the purchase of our king adjustable bases and Estasi mattress and the customer service we received during our purchase. I have a lengthly commute for work and it has taken a toll on my lower back. I also suffer with sciatica and my husband is beginning to feel the aches and pains of being a lifelong soccer player (including adult leagues until recently). We were in the market for a new mattress and while shopping in Blue Back Square accidently stumpled upon their store.
Doug, Betty, & Jessie were beyond professional. They were also kind, relatable, patient, and knowledgable. I am quite familiar with the adjustable bed 'industry' and knew that the information we received from the staff at this store was honest and accurate. They were flexible with our schedules for delivery and their prices were very fair. Their products are top quality and the white glove delivery service was exceptional.
Doug, Betty, and Jessie took their time with us to truly understand our wants and needs in picking out a new bed (undertanding our comfortability and medical nuances) and did not pressure us in any way for a sale. On the contrary, they were patient and tolerable to our numerous questions. They are highly credible professionals and this is a reputable business.
We also appreciated that they kept us upated during the ordering and shipping process. They continue to make themselves available and as a result, we have already recommended them to family and friends. In fact, in addition to bedding, we purchased a full seat cushion chair pad for my vehicle and 3 office foot rests. Since purchasing these products, I can honestly say my back and sciatic feel significantly better and the quality of my life has physically and emotionally improved.
They stand behind their products and honor their customer contracts. Additionally, they truly want their customers to be authentically happy! Hence, we would highly recommend them without any reservation to anyone in the market for new beds, bases, mattresses, chairs, and other products to improve the quality and wellness...
