This hike is beautiful, but a much longer hike than the sign at the beginning indicates. You hike back and forth on switchbacks at a decline. There's no way it is only 5/8 of a mile. This was unfortunately for the person who was with us who had a minor injury and did not anticipate such a difficult and time-consuming hike. It had a beautiful view of Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, but you can see that beautiful view without hiking down. The other view you hike down to see is the falls, but I would recommend hiking to Brink of the Lower Falls instead for a view of waterfalls.
