A Breathtaking Hike to the Brink of Lower Falls

Visiting the Brink of Lower Falls is an absolute must-see while at Yellowstone. The view is simply breathtaking, so much so that it feels almost unreal. There are two options for taking in the view: a more accessible overlook, and a more strenuous trail that takes you down to the bottom. While the overlook provides a great view, the 3/8-mile hike with a 600-foot elevation drop is well worth the effort. The trail is a manageable switchback with benches along the way, making the climb back up doable.

Be aware that the trail is not stroller-friendly, and due to the steep incline on the return trip, it is not recommended for anyone with mobility or heart issues. However, if you can make the hike, the epic view from the bottom, combined with the sheer power of the falls, is truly amazing and unforgettable. It’s a favorite spot for many visitors, who find the climb well worth it for the incredible views of the falls and the canyon. The entire experience—from the breathtaking scenery to the epic views at each pull-off—makes this a highlight of any trip to...

It was so beautiful and breathtaking, and my favorite place in all of Yellowstone. I really recommend going here and is a beautiful sight to see. It was personally my favorite out of all of Yellowstone and enjoyed looking down and seeing everything. I do not recommend going here if you are afraid of heights. My dad is afraid of heights and got a little sick because too far down. It was so beautiful can we not explain in words, not even pictures can show how beautiful it was. So if you go to Yellowstone go here because it was so nice and breathtaking. One really cool thing was that you could see all of the water vapor forming at the bottom of the waterfall. Another cool thing was that me and my brother threw a pebble down and you could see it until it disappeared into the cloud of water vapor. I thought it...

The Brink of the Lower Falls in Yellowstone National Park is a breathtaking experience not to be missed. The short but scenic 0.08 mile (1.3 km) trail leads to a popular viewing area directly overlooking the majestic Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River. It's a quick hike, taking about 30 minutes to complete round trip, making it accessible for most visitors.

The best time to visit is from June to September when the weather is favorable and the trail is typically clear of snow. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed on this trail, but the stunning views of the waterfall cascading over the edge are well worth the visit. Whether you're a nature enthusiast or simply seeking awe-inspiring vistas, the Brink of the Lower Falls promises a memorable experience in one of America's most iconic...

If I remember correctly the walk down to the top of the falls is 3/8 mile, almost all switchbacks. If you're afraid of heights you might have some concerns going down. I was there in spring when overnight snow and ice had just melted off the path. The trail is paved but somewhat steep, and the trail slopes down in 2 directions, ahead of you and to the side. You can just try to keep to the uphill side, furthest from the edge, like I did. Don't try this on cold mornings that might be icy. Walking back up to the parking lot was easier mentally than going down, though obviously it's slightly more strenuous aerobically. View is good but not the most spectacular in Yellowstone, e.g. liked Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone better.
