Lower Falls of the Yellowstone — Attraction in West Yellowstone

This was AMAZING! It had to be one of the top, if not the top, on my list from a week there of seeing everything. It's a little bit of a hike, but it was easy enough that even my four-year-old managed fine. The path has some rough spots, though. If you want to get a picture like I did from above with your family, just go to the smaller platform above and look down the main viewing platform and the waterfall- (there is a trail right to it). Also, TAKE WATER- you can see it rushing over that edge and it's hot and you're thirsty and it's torture if...

Taking a well walked mostly paved trail to viewpoints is rated moderate but only because of the steep switch backs. Otherwise it's easy. Some kids and older folks could get winded but there's another great lookout within easy walking distance and is wheelchair accessible. Nothing quite prepares you for the experience of water hurtling out into the air quite the way it does here. The Yellowstone River flowing along on a bottom carpet of green algae and mosses and the next instant it plunges into a deafening roar into the white water chasm of the gorge. You can feel the vibration under your feet and moisture on your face as you stand at the precipice of the falls. Well worth the walk down to the top...
