I visited here for the first time on 7/9/25 with close friends who live near by and had to pay $10 to get in. The gate man saw that I had an animal but never stated any policies about pets not being allowed by the water front area. When I approached the beach, I never stepped on the sand, my friend & I sat on our towels while the kids swam or fished. I sat there for an hour with my service animal beside me. My son caught a fish and he was going to throw it back in and the Director of the camp (not in uniform) said to toss it on the other-side (meanwhile, acknowledging I had a pet beside me, but said nothing). My son did as he was told, then caught another fish and needed my help to take the hook off. I walked towards him with my service pet to remove the hook then back to my spot by the trees and rock wall grassy edge. I put a life vest on the animal under their harness and leash in case it got to close to the water helping my son and the director asked me to leave the area because my pet wasn't allowed there suddenly. My animal was very kind and gentle, no feces, no barking, etc. I explained I have ADA paperwork for my disability and he did not care. With a witness he told me I had to stay by cabin near the playground & picnic area with this pet. Because I have a disability I was forced to leave the waterfront area away from my family and child my entire stay there. I was isolated and unwelcomed, waiting for my family to enjoy their stay without me being part of this reunion because I have a disability. Veterans fought wars for laws like this to be honored so I am very disgusted with the unfair treatment I received. His female assistant M. also agreed with him refusing to view my paperwork proving I had a right to be there like all the others. I warned them I would call the police to report this and still they did not care so I did what I had to do. I called the Police to make a report, the officer spoke to each person: female in the cabin, and director on the beach swimming with his family (must be nice to be there with family, good thing he doesn't have a disability). Officer said the Director stated I was allowed to suddenly sit by the trees near the water front. But when the officer wasn't there I was directed to sit much farther away like I had a disease. I asked the officer if I could have the $10 back if my family decides to leave and he said that was up to the director which of course will be a NO, they just discriminated me for having a disability. I asked for a copy of my police report which was also denied, he said I would have to travel to the town office to get it. No business card of the report number nothing just sweeping dirt under the rug. I sat in the same spot basically just two steps back for a bench seat where my family was, but they wanted to leave because the kids had their fun and ice cream while I waited for an officer to remind the director my rights. The Director stated dog poop in the water would close them down, though my dog never committed that crime. And I had doggie bags just in case. Birds poop, geese poop, just another excuse to get away with discrimination. And my friends/family too were disgusted with the unfair treatment. This park use to be very special to their childhood and this left a scar on me & them too. I do not recommend this park. Crappy Management. Discriminates folks with disabilities and ADA...
Read morePark is amazing, club house is awesome, lake access and woods are awesome. Its clean and equipment is new.
But be aware- one set of bathrooms in the club house closes at 4, sometimes earlier. The other set is at the beginning of the park set kind of back behind the tennis courts. Getting there with young kids (this is a park afterall) from the playground or the lake takes longer than most kids can hold it while running across a park, and they are very secluded. While this is Maine and safe, its more than a little creepy being in there with little kids trying to potty. Fyi there are also no signs for the bathrooms anywhere. I had to call the city to ask if there were bathrooms anywhere else after the main club house closed...
Read moreA local treasure! No park in the area comes close to offering what this one does. I love that it is open to the public, free for residents of Wilton and a small seasonal price for out of towners. They offer kayak and canoe rentals, docks on the waterfront, basketball, and tennis courts, baseball and softball fields. A lodge that opens in the summer with free games like ping pong and pool. They also have nice ice skating area and warming building in the winter. Plenty of bathrooms and most are wheelchair accessible. The Wilton recreation department runs sports camps and swimming lessons there which are great for my kids. I am able to follow all things Wilton Recreation right on Facebook. Did I mention huge fan...
