Horn Pond is a hidden gem in the metro Boston area. Easy to get to its about a 10 minute uber ride from Winchester Center Station or you can ride from Winchester to Horn Pond on the Tri Community greenway path. its about 10 minutes from Woburn center as well. The pond has many cool trails one main paved trail that most people walk their dogs on and walk or rollerblade or job around and a couple of paved and dirt trails that go around the back side of the trails. The dirt paths are well marked so you most likely wont get lost if you follow the colors (red stripes) or (orange stripes) the intersections are marked by numbered wooden posts. there is an interesting variety of features to check out on y our walk including a giant metallic pipe, a wooden bridge on the backside of the pond, a community garden, an owl roosts which has owls from time to time , swan rookery area on the backside marsh, Blue and green herons around the community garden pond, a old Red bridge (which I refer to as the billy goats gruff bridge ) (the one the trolls were hiding under in the book), a causeway which people fish off of, they stock trout (catch and release only, not safe to bring home to eat.) - people do kayaking and boating in the waters as well. Two parking areas on either side of the pond and by the old Clapp School (which was featured in the movie American Hustle with a view of the pond right at the end credits of the movie) -which is now a park. Horn pond has summer time bandstand concerts as well and is a great place to meet your neighbors and their furry friends. Parking can be tough during really nice weather or later in the day but you can generally find a spot. Sunsets and photography are amazing around the pond as well. There is a view of Boston Skyline from the top of Horn Pond mountain. Great spot for families , elderly, and anyone to get outside, exercise, or...
Read moreThis is a loop trail with wide paved paths. Branching off are many smaller dirt footpaths leading to the water or up into the hills. It's an easy stroll with ample benches along the way for enjoying the beautiful views, watching the waterfowl, or resting. Near the water plant is a path which is quite steep. This will lead to the mountain top for a gorgeous view of Boston's skyline. (Great sunset opportunities) Access to the water allows for kayaking and fishing. Some areas lead to small beach areas, though I don't know that play is advised. If you want a gentle stroll with a view, I highly recommend checking...
Read moreHorn Pond is a nice public space bordering Winchester and Woburn not far from Boston. There's a flat, easy trail all around the pond for walking or riding, and a number of side trails for exploring the woods and wetlands surrounding the larger lake. These pictures were taken from the top of "Horn Mountain," a large hill affording nice views of Boston on one side and Woburn on the other. The bike photo is from the Woburn side overlooking land where once stood a native American settlement. Access it from the main loop on a paved side trail called "Nolan's Trail." It's a steep climb up but the views...
