Staff is friendly, however they are extremely lacking in what is required and what is not. If you are renewing tags or doing something simple, this place should be fine for you. If you have anything complicated, go somewhere else because they will just give you the run around getting unnecessary documentation. I wanted to register both my wife's vehicle and my own since I retired from the Army and needed to transfer the registration. I had the title to my car, it named me and my ex-wife and it used the word "or" in between names. They claimed I needed her signature, which is wrong as "or" requires only 1 parties signature. When I provided the divorce decree with me being awarded the vehicle, they claimed that the last name didn't match my ex-wifes (electronic title print off with her updated name). I then pointed out in the divorce decree where my ex-wife's maiden name was established. They then pointed to her name still not matching because it was the same first, middle, and last name, but it was hyphenated and her new husband's last name was added. The title has my name and my ex-wifes new name which is all the same except an added name. The divorce decree has all the same information. You would think logic would dictate that she is the same person since my name is on both documents. No sir, you see this name is Jane Ann Smith-Wright on the title that has your name also on it, and your divorce decree shows only Jane Ann Smith. We are worried about fraud and we can't let you register your vehicle and pay state tax. I guess only fraudsters do that. My current wife's vehicle needed to be registered too. They didn't like the signed and notarized document that the Kansas DMV sent us for the Title. The woman claimed it was just a receipt for the "authentic title" and was turned away with 3 different forms that they claimed we need to fill out. The next day I went to Lacey Auto Licensing and was able to complete my car registration in 5 minutes with 2 signatures. In and out. They even looked over my wife's documentation that I brought and said it was good and all they need to do is fax the lien-holder to send the original title and that she would be all set as soon as she comes up there. Hopefully this information can help some people, especially veterans who may have a more complicated situation that needs to be addressed. This isn't the place to go. The ladies were both friendly, but severely unknowledgeable about the processes, regulations, and requirements involving state licensing and registration. Even with the lack of knowledge, a little bit of problem solving, logic, and extrapolation would have gone a...
Read moreNo matter what the website says, the Thrift Store is NOT OPEN. It hasn't been open since Covid. The phone number for the Thrift Store given by the Community Service line has been disconnected yet when you go to their website it's still listed. I have called numerous times over the last couple of years and spoken with the Community Service manager (s) and was always assured that these matters would be corrected. They haven't been. They seem to be able to update their events for 2024 but they can't update information about the Thrift Store. Ever! This is such a shame. Parents depended on Yelm Community Services to help them with clothes for their children or household items that otherwise they couldn't afford. No more I guess....
Read moreThe staff member we worked with was super rude. Due to COVID they are meeting people at the two front windows. The staff still have to go in the back. Once they go in the back there is no way to get there attention unless you really yell for them. This particular staff said we needed a bankstatment or utility bill addressed to us at our address in yelm. Because we just moved here and staying with family we did not have any paper copy of any type of bill or statement. They said we would have to register our new car to our old address where we no longer live in a county 100 miles north. THEN THEY GAVE US TWO DIFFERNT LICENSE PLATES FOR THE SAME CAR! Im very disappointed and frustrated with this...
