Today (July 17th, 2021) my family and I went for the first time to Edge of Escape Rooms. It was 6 of us, 2 adults and 4 kids. Dave welcomed us in. He was very nice and helpful. He even suggested we did a different room when he saw we had a 4 YO with us (Time Machine), which was very fun for the entire family. Dave was super helpful with clues throughout the 60 mins, which allowed us to successfully complete our mission :) My whole family had a great time. So you are wondering why the 2 star rating. Well, maybe 10 mins after we left I received a call from Dave. He said that the flashlights that we used as part of the escape room were missing. They had looked throughout the whole room and unable to find them and wanted to know if we had them. I was completely shocked by the reason for the call. I told him that we didn’t have them. At this point, I believe another person (not Dave) started talking. The young man said that they had looked all over, and for us to please check our pockets and return the flashlights. I kept saying we didn’t have the flashlights, and put them on speaker phone and asked my kids if they knew where we left the flashlights. My oldest daughter told them they were inside a box. I then told them that we would be happy to turn around to help them look. They responded that they had already looked everywhere before calling us. So basically no need for us to help them look, and that’s how the phone conversation ended. Not even 5 mins later I get a second call from them to notify us that they had found the flashlights (in a box they had not looked in!!!). Needless to say that my family & I were beyond offended by the stealing accusation. We will not be returning to...
Read moreI decided to hold my daughter's 12th birthday at the Edge of Escape Rooms. I originally found out about the business through Groupon, but after calling in, I realized a turnkey party wasn't covered by the Groupon, so I booked the "standard rate" 8 person, 2 hour party, which included an 8 person, facilitated escape room adventure (1 hour), one laser maze race attempt for each child, a private room, 2 pizzas, cupcakes, drinks, and decorations. The day of the party, the hosts greeted us outside and they offered us juice and water while we waited for the other kids. Once everyone arrived, they played an intro video for the kids explaining the background of the game. While the girls were in the room with the facilitator (who was great with the girls), the owner hosted my wife and I and our friend on something of an insider's tour, which added greatly to our experience. In the control room, we could see and hear the girls working through the various challenges with great excitement. The owner is clearly very engaged in the overall vision of the business and the meticulous and creative build out of the escape room. After the escape room, we ate pizza. Then each girl had the opportunity to do the laser room race, where they had to move statues through the game play area without breaking the laser beams, all while being timed. This took about 15-20 min. in total across the 8 girls. Finally we wrapped up with cupcakes. All in all, a great birthday experience for my daughter and her friends. Highly...

The Chicagoland area is really underwhelming with regards to escape rooms. Edge of Escape, however, has AMAZING sets ESPECIALLY** for the location. These sets are very ORNATE, IMMERSIVE, and 200% worth the time and money. I have been so disappointed by other escape rooms in the suburban areas. (Buffalo grove, schaumburg, etc. Do not trust reviews) But the owners of Edge of Escape really love their craft.
We have done both Time Machine and Tunnels under London. Honestly, I think people are sleeping on Tunnels because I think it's actually quite a bit better than Time Machine, despite it being less popular. The puzzles for Tunnels are dramatically better than in Time Machine and the set itself is actually more immersive in my opinion too.
One piece of feedback I have is that the game designers do not want to try other escape rooms and do not pull ANY ideas from the outside. Because of this, I think some of the puzzles towards the end of Tunnels, and most* of the puzzles in Time Machine often suffer from too much randomness.
Regardless, these rooms are absolutely SO worth a visit due to the beautiful design and investment into these rooms. Just check out their website and see for yourself. Bring a brainy team...
