Really cool museum. They have tiles from a variety of countries and time periods, as well as interesting videos that explain the process of how they are made. You can also see photographs of the tiles on different buildings/structures in Uruguay and around the world. It definitely made me look at tiling differently

If I were to change anything, however, I would say that the organization was a little confusing at times. I understand that fixing it wouldn't exactly be an easy feat, when you have to consider both a variety of locations as well as time periods and styles. However, I would have loved if like...the first floor was only the 18/19th century, the second floor was only the 20th...etc. It would have made it easier for me to see the connections of things, I think.

That being said, overall a great experience (with friendly staff too). Definitely recommend

Beautiful collection of tiles spread across three floors of this building. Some of these tiles are indigenous to Uruguay and others imported to build the collection. I particularly liked the Portuguese tiles (Room 17), some dating back to the 16th Century. The museum is free to visit. I was greeted by a very friendly lady who realised I was English and spoke to me about her Scottish mother. She wanted one day to visit her maternal ancestral home back...

What a great surprise this place is! Three floors packed with tiles from the most basic of designs through to highly intricate art nouveau classics. Most were around the turn of the 20th century, with a few from as early as the late 1400s. And all housed in a marvellous Art Deco building with an original staircase. It's just off the major Avenida 18 de Julio, in a really nice part of the city. Staff were...
