The Sun World Park is still under construction at the time of this post (January 2019), so the only thing to do was take the tram down to the beach. Note that the cable car shuts down for lunch from 12 PM to 1:30 PM.
The beach was decent, and although there are loungers and umbrellas available free of charge, it took me half an hour to find an open chair. It was so crowded several visitors sit on the hill just behind the beach.
There are a nearby buffet available for 250,000 VND (or discounted at 200,000 VND if you bought it along with your cable car ticket), as well as some grilled snacks at the beach. I wanted to have a beer on the beach, but they were sold out of all brands on my visit.
There's a giant inflatable playground in the water, which is great if you have children. Otherwise it can be an eyesore if you just want to relax.
I wouldn't recommend coming to Hon Thom (Pineapple Island) just for the beach, as there are several nicer beaches on Phu Quoc. But do come for the amazing cable car ride as well as the yet-to-be finished...
Read morePhu Quoc was a dream! The island itself is stunning - crystal clear water, soft sand beaches, and lush green hills. We spent most of our days exploring different beaches and soaking up the sun. Bãi tắm Sunworld, in particular, was a real gem. The water was unbelievably calm and turquoise, perfect for floating around and cooling off. There were even some vendors selling fresh coconuts right on the beach - so refreshing!
Now, when it comes to restaurants, things got a little tricky. We were specifically looking for a place called Nhà Hàng Phú Quốc, hoping to try some local specialties. Unfortunately, we couldn't actually find it anywhere. We ended up at a different beachside restaurant, and the food was just okay. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything to write home about either.
Overall, Phu Quoc is an amazing island paradise, but I would recommend doing some research on restaurants beforehand so you don't...
Read moreVery clearly not finished as of xmas 2018. Facilities will be nice when construction is complete in maybe a year or two. Currently just a beach with a buffet (250k vnd per pax, typical all you can eat). Coffee stand had a wide menu (30-65k per drink) but was out of toppings and about half of the drink options at 11am (if they had those to begin with). Grass area is nice and sunny, if a little bit prickly, so not having enough sunbeds is not that big a problem. Showers were quite far from the shore. Free canoes (as long as you had a life vest on, which were also provided) and a wipe-out style water amusement float were awesome!
So: currently good for non-fuzzy people looking for activities, still under construction. Take the shuttle cart from the cable car station to get to...
