Nestled on the beautiful North Shore of Oahu, Waimea Bay Beach Park is a true gem that offers the perfect blend of natural beauty and recreational opportunities. From the moment you arrive, the stunning turquoise waters and golden sands leave you in awe. Whether you're a local or a visitor, this beach park has something for everyone. Also my kids found a peacock 🦚 a real one. Such a unique experience. One of the standout features of Waimea Bay is its spacious picnic area. Shaded by lush trees, the picnic spots provide a serene environment to enjoy a meal with family and friends. The well-maintained picnic tables are strategically placed, allowing you to soak in the breathtaking views while enjoying a delicious lunch. There are also BBQ grills available, perfect for those who want to make a day of it with a cookout by the beach. The beach itself is ideal for swimming and sunbathing, with calm waters during the summer months that invite you to take a refreshing dip. In winter, the waves can get quite large, making Waimea Bay a prime spot for surfers and spectators alike. Watching the surfers ride the waves is an exhilarating experience and adds to the vibrant atmosphere of the beach. In addition to the picturesque beach and picnic areas, the park features restrooms and outdoor showers, which are essential for washing off the sand after a day in the sun. The surrounding landscape is beautifully maintained, with walking paths that lead you to scenic viewpoints, ideal for capturing those Instagram-worthy photos. Overall, Waimea Bay Beach Park is a fantastic destination for anyone looking to enjoy a day of relaxation, fun, and outdoor activities. Whether you're picnicking under the trees, swimming in the crystal-clear waters, or simply soaking up the sun, this beach park is sure to leave you with lasting memories. Just remember to arrive early, as it can get busy, especially on weekends!

Waimea bay is really overrated. It's a beach so it's beautiful but there are over 100 beaches just on Oahu some better for swimming, some better for surfing, some amazing for snorkeling, ECT. This beach has like 1 activity you can't really do at other beaches. ⛰️Cliff diving from the rock in the bay. It's about a 25 foot jump. On days with good ocean conditions there are hundreds of people who jump. Other beaches have cliff diving but with much higher drowning rates. So if cliff diving is what you are looking for go check it out Waimea bay. There is also an area for bouldering. 🧗 Its a good spot in the winter to surf or watch surfing. But there are beaches all over north shore and west side for that too. 🏄 The ⛱️ beach itself is large so there is lots of room to spend out, set up a tent, throw a frisbee. But has the WORST parking on the island. It's pretty much impossible to find a spot even on weekdays and then once you do park lugging umbrellas and coolers down the road and across the sand is just obnoxious. The beach is BIG it's like 100 yards of sand from the bathrooms to the ocean. Taking the bus 🚌 with minimal equipment might be a best option. There is a stop just outside the entrance to the park. If you are looking to swim there are so many better places that are less busy. Waimea has a very quick drop off and the breaking waves 🌊 can be kinda intense and throw people around. There are bathrooms, showers and almost always a lifeguard on duty. Not much shade and no where to put up a hammock. Good place to watch sunset 🌅

Beautiful beach, enormous shore break waves for experienced boogie boarders. Nice sand, showers and changing facilities. Not sure what a typical surf is like but the day I was there I saw some waves faces that were 20 ft high. One thing that was comical was a guy with an inflatable rubber duckie was trying to swim out into the waves and often had very dramatic "wipe outs" but kept on swimming out with his float. Also the lifeguard warnings were interesting. "This is not an amusement park, please don't act [like it's a wave pool]...The waves are only going to get bigger and bigger. If you would like to know some safer beaches to visit please come and see me". Sometimes he would say, "we have the biggest wave set of the day coming in right now." At one point he even said "listed, uh...(long pause)..,the guy with the DUCK!!..." Parking is very problematic since not only a small lot but limited street parking outside. One nearby house has a sign "$5 parking" (in their front yard). The left turn going in and, more so, the left turn going out, and both extremely dangerous. Didn't want to dock the overall beach rating but the turns themselves deserves "negative 2" ratings. The intersection is on a blind part of a sharp curve in the main road, with heavy traffic and narrow lanes. It's too easy to accidentally get clipped while you're stopped waiting for the opportunity to turn left. (I visited on Christmas Day and saw someone have a wreck!! Bad enough but horrible as an xmas present :( ).

Lots of chicken on the lawn next to the parking blacktop. Parking is very difficult. There is a private lot across the highway with the valley/fall at $20 if you value time over money. I don't recommend the fall paid trail. Nothing special unfortunately. There is a so-so waterfall after you feed all the mosquitoes walking the trail there. Back to the beach/park, there are also a handful of spots on the highway south bound (sea side) that's difficult to access if you are lucky. Usually jam going south on the road so be prepared. There are no shaded picnic tables and if you arrive later in the afternoon there are a couple shady tables to sit and feed the chickens on the north side of the parking. The beach on the south end has a rock and kids line up to jump off it. Thanks no thanks. Snorkeling could be done given the waves are not too bad. There is some stuff to see under water but you would have to go out 50 yards or so. The sand was fine and powdered. Restroom and rinse off shower available. Dare to stroll north and there is a rock outcrop you could reach. It's a little more removed from the crowd. There is nothing to explore at the river mouth.

Home of the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Surf Tournament in the winter and the Waimea Roughwater Swim in the summer, Waimea is a waterman's delight. And if the scorching sun and waves aren't your thing, seek refuge on the north side of the beach next to the cliffside in the shade. You can see chalk on the cliffside where rock climbers have made their ways up the face. Don't jump off the big pohaku in the water unless you know what you're doing. Only the jumps from that rock that are over open water are doable, if reckless! Little known to most people is the lava tube that goes from one side of the big rock to the other, big enough for expert swimmers to go through. I've done it more then several times over my lifetime. In the summer when the bay is flat, you can roll in the shorebreak without any fear. If you are there on a lucky day when the river reaches the ocean you can even surf in the waves that the river makes during it's descent into the ocean. I once saw a sunfish in the bay, scared the bejesus out of me, but usually you'll hear dolphins and whales in the distance underwater. It's one of the most majestic beaches in the world.
