Waimea Bay Beach – A Stunning Slice of Oahu Worth the Early Wake-Up
We left Waikīkī at 6:00 AM sharp, determined to get a good parking spot at Waimea Bay, one of the most beautiful and popular beaches on Oahu’s North Shore. With some questionable speeding involved (which we definitely don’t recommend), we arrived around 7:20 AM—only to discover that the parking lot was already full! Cars were already lining the roadside before the entrance. That’s how fast this place fills up.
I dropped off my family while I waited in a small line of cars, hoping someone would leave. About 45 minutes later, I finally got a spot. It was a bit of a hassle, but once we got settled in, it was completely worth it.
The beach itself is absolutely stunning—golden sand, clear blue water, and a laid-back atmosphere. There’s a rocky cliff on one end, perfect for the brave souls who want to try a jump into the ocean (a popular but unofficial activity). In the water, there’s plenty to see below the surface, with schools of tropical fish swimming all around. Definitely bring your snorkel gear if you have it—it adds a whole new layer to the experience.
We came prepared with a beach tent and umbrella, which were lifesavers in the strong sun. Sunscreen is a must (reef-safe only, please), and so is bringing your own lunch, snacks, and drinks—there aren’t many options nearby, and you’ll want to spend the whole day here once you arrive. And don’t forget your camera—between the cliff jumps, sea life, and ocean views, there are memories waiting to be captured.
The waves were strong but manageable for adults, though if you’re visiting with younger kids, you’ll want to keep a close eye on them at all times—Waimea’s surf can be unpredictable.
In short: • Arrive early (VERY early) • Don’t speed—better to be late than sorry • Be patient with parking • Bring your own food, shade, and snorkeling gear • Enjoy one of the most beautiful beaches on the island
Waimea Bay is a North Shore gem—busy but breathtaking, and an unforgettable part of any...
Read moreIt was beautiful🌴🌴🌴😄 February 2021. What can I say, Hawaii simply just beautiful. I am pretty sure that the beaches are always very clean and the water is always pristine and clear. Especially during the pandemic, when there are less visitors to begin with. I am innocent, to say that I really don't know but the experience was remarkable. The water temperature in February was around 75 degrees. The weather outside was 80° day and night. For the two weeks that I stayed here, I just simply enjoy the weather. Yeah it rained off and on. But it will usually just go away pretty fast. No more than 30 minutes at one time. The people here are always happy smiling and who can blame them they are in Paradise after all. What are the most interesting things that I found in the North Shore of Oahu, is the fact that marine life is ever so present. If you like snorkeling, like I do, you will definitely enjoy this pristine water Paradise. The a few measures that I had to take before visiting this beautiful island of Oahu. You have to register with the travel safe Hawaii website. In and put all your information. Plus you have to take a covid exam within the trusted network of clinics. This exam can I be taking later than 72 hours. And it has to be uploaded into the website. I had to do this in order not to have to quarantine for the 10 days that are required within the Hawaiian government guidelines. I really appreciate the Hawaii does everything in their power to make sure that the residents and the visitors who do visit, stay as safe as possible during these tough times. Beautiful time, beautiful...
Read moreIt's about a five minute drive from our house, so that makes it one of my favorites, although i'm a five minute walk from Sunset, etc. Anyway, we're here to talk about Waimea. It's undoubtedly one of the most famous beaches on earth, and one of the best. Great surf in the winter, with some fabulous surf invitationals, like the Eddie Aikau. And if you're really daring, you could jump off "the rock". Maybe watch the locals first.... Water is warm all year and you can swim/surf most of the time, except for the winter high surf and strong current warnings which are common on the North Shore in winter. But even if you cant go in the water on certain days, watching the amazing surfers, and laying out in the sand is a religious experience. Waimea gets busy by midmorning, but IF you can find a place to park, the beach is rarely too overcrowded. My favorite time is April-June, but it's always wonderful. Go up sometime early in the morning around sunrise and walk the beach. Often, you'll be almost alone. You must...
