Chose Apollo Bay to stay during a holiday along the Great Ocean Road, and decided on the Rayville Boat Houses. While comfortable and stylish enough, there were a few detractors that made me unable to give a 5 or even 4 star rating.
First, although the villas provide everything one could need on a short stay, they are packed very close together, and give next to no privacy, with noise travelling between them and open windows something to be carefully aware of. A little more spacing would have been preferable.
Second, there was no view to be had from our cabin. The location was advertised as having a view, but it appears that only applies to a certain portion of the cabins.
Third, issues with nonessential comforts nevertheless stuck in my mind. Complimentary wi-fi was provided, but proved slow and ineffectual. Although a wood fire was provided, fuel and other material had to be requested at reception rather than being provided in the villa. Apart from these points, it's important to note that the villa was clean, well-furnished and well-stocked. The bathroom had a spa bath (not used, but a plus nonetheless), and the villa also had a kitchen which we used to cook our own breakfast.
Rayville Boat Houses are still well located - a short walk into town, yet far enough away as to be tranquil at night. Perhaps could have been cheaper for what it was, but not something one would feel deeply...
Read moreThe location was perfect, just a 5 minute stroll to Main Street, golf course and great fish and chip coop, the service and support from Amanda was excellent. Unfortunately the positives stop there. It was very windy and the wood heater flue would not stop banging and rattling through the day and night, we had to relocate the couch and place 2 large bowls on the floor due to the constant water leaking through the wood panel ceiling due to the rain, the stove elements were full of rust and had not been de-rusted for some time, the shower pressure was little more than a fast dribble, we couldn’t close the windows in the loft due to the broken winders and rusted up gearing, this caused a considerable airflow that caused the blinds to continually rattle and bang. The most concerning was the inability to secure the unit when going out as the door to the deck facing the street would not lock due to the striker lock being rusted inside the locking mechanism. Anyone could just step of the street, step over the small low rail and enter through the balcony door, it also appears that this door has been broken for some considerable time. The general appearance both internally and externally would indicate that the accomodation complex has not maintained and would...
Read moreIt’s what they don’t tell you that is disappointing! Booked well in advance a Deluxe Loft Villa with main bed and bathroom on ground floor and single beds upstairs. Received a text a few hours before we arrived that we were upgraded, but when we arrived the Villa was freezing and only heating was 2 small oil heaters on ground floor. Yes there is a Conara heater which was full of the last users left over wood, to go out and cut your own wood, kindling, paper and get the fire cleaned and started again when its dark and freezing outside is poor service. The split system did not work at all. We had to put the oven and all the cook tops on just to get the chill of the ground floor. Lucky there was an electric blanket on the main bed. Also with the upgrade all bedrooms are upstairs and bathrooms downstairs, finding your way down a rickety small and narrow staircase during the night was a pain for us older Aussies . The shower over the spar was terrible. Parking in a carport next to our villa was difficult for our medium sized car, don't even try with a larger car!. You also had to clean up your kitchen-bins and bring in to the outside bins! The villa was clean and the bed...
