Downgrading to 2 stars: Since Epic lost it's 2 outside car parks, it simply can no longer accommodate the large crowds which gather for its various events. Now instead of being able to park 300-500 cars outside, they all loop the small car park in the grounds indefinitely (nightmare). The events this establishment still hold are fantastic and enjoyable, but driving is now a bad option (with severe lack of alternative travel options until the trams are functioning next year).
Update - 5 years later: Upgrade to 3 stars Pretty much the same; still an awesome place for big events... Except the terrible transport options. As the tram doesn't go southside it's of no use to me, and there's still so many people trying to park with so little car parks available. Perhaps when the tram links to southside, and assuming they run extra trams for events, then things could greatly improve.
P.s. Please don't let the Greens demolish this place and the racecourse for a new suburb dedicated to dense living apartments... It just needs better transport options, not to be destroyed. This is one of Canberra's few locations for holding many unique events and expos. Not to mention replacing grasslands with high-rise apartments seems very un-green...
Read moreStop 6 on our big lap around Aus. Typical of many council run parks in big cities - fairly basic facilities (no camp kitchen, concrete floor toilet shower block, bare earth sites), but quiet location with lots of green space to walk pets and generally quite clean. Very handy if you want to attend some of the many events that are on at Exhibition park - the weekend we stayed there was a fashion market, kids market, book fest, and twilight races of the Canberra harness racing club (we walked across and sat under a tree along the edge of the track on the back straight). Bit of a walk to anything happening outside the park but you can get morning paper and some supplies at the service station at one of the entrances to the park (about 400 to 500 metres walk from the accomodation sites). Canberra itself is not a very pet friendly town and this is one of the very few accomodation options you'll find...
Read moreAs a place operating a caravan park, EPIC fail, charging $35/$40 per night for a pretty ordinary site is way over the top and is very bad value. The ablutions are a disgrace, the only time in 4 days we saw a cleaner was Tues at 0730, the busiest time of the day, an impossible time to clean properly and it shows. The floor is filthy and some shower curtains look like they were hung in the 60's & haven't been cleaned since! Maybe management might think about leaving their office and actually look around at what your customers are getting for their money and ask yourself if you would think it was a good deal and if you did I'm sure you will see where I'm coming from. Next time we come to the ACT we will find another place to stay where at least they mow the grass and do some maintenance...
