Mercure Kangaroo Island Lodge — Hotel in Kangaroo Island

I spent 4 days - 3 nights (Beginning of July 2021) in the hotel and had not good experience.

1-The room has no Microwave (Which is fine). I asked the the hotel reception about the possibility of having a microwave, the answer was you will get one if you upgrade your room.

2- I asked the reception if is possible to heat a small closed meal container for me in microwave. The answer was we don't do this service for the customers

3- the hotel have a sauna service written every where, when I asked about it. They said it is closed due to covid.( It looks for me more an excuse than a true reason)

4- on the last day, before my travel back the Fire alarm start ringing at my room and outside from 4:30 AM and kept ringing on /off till I left 8 AM I told the reception I didn't get good sleep. They only apologised and not even offer 1 cup of coffee to wakeup :)

Positive thing about it: Room was clean and toilet recently renovated

1+2)- I didn't mention it is a metal container ( what i had is microwave friendly plastic container) + the reception just said NO and he didn't give any other explanation.

3)- I am not sure about SA regulations for the case you mentioned in the time I was there, but at least you can update your website and the hotel sign boards that is it not available due to covid restrictions. And not keeping it as available service.

4)- As far as I remember it was ON/Off till around 8 AM... and my main point is: The hotel doesn't has the mindset of customer service. Generally the hotel was fine across the board. For the most part I spent nearly all of my time touring the island so I was only at the hotel for very limited periods.

Main thing to point out is there's not much in local walking area for food stores, so best to come prepared with additional snacks/food if you're not planning to use the restaurant or bar menu options.

The room was getting to the point of feeling a bit outdated and needing a bit of refurbishment/overhaul. Still it got the job done and was functional, just nothing special. Lots of small minor quirks like power sockets not being overly close to the bed etc. Mattress was surprisingly quite comfortable though.

Bathroom same deal with being standard and functional. Water pressure was good.

Restaurant was much better than I was expecting for the token hotel dining option. Interesting enough menus. Even their separate bar menu was actually surprisingly decent. Prices were kind of to be expected due to location, but didn't feel overly unreasonable compared to some major cities even. Staff were helpful and friendly. A few seemed new but were clearly doing their best with minor language barrier.

Meals came out in reasonable amounts of time for dinner and breakfast compared to the amount of people in the restaurant etc.

Didn't use the pool or any other facilities to comment on. From a general glance they seemed fine by all accounts but showing some age.

I recently had a fantastic stay at Kangaroo Island, and I can't say enough good things about it! From the moment I arrived, James, the manager, went above and beyond to accommodate my last-minute changes. The staff at the help desk were incredibly friendly and went out of their way to fulfill my requests. Their warm and welcoming attitude made me feel right at home.

The hotel itself was absolutely beautiful, with a cozy and inviting atmosphere. My room was incredibly spacious, and the bed was so comfortable that I had the best night's sleep. It was a perfect retreat after a long day of exploring.

One evening, I had the pleasure of dining at the bay, and let me tell you, the fish and chips dish was out of this world! The portion size was generous, and the taste was simply delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed every bite.

Upon arrival, I was pleasantly surprised to be offered a welcome drink and biscuits. It was such a thoughtful gesture, especially since I was feeling a bit hungry. It's those little touches that make a big difference in creating a memorable experience.
