The degustation menu at Samphire is a must do Kangaroo Island experience for seafood lovers. Don’t be fooled by the homely appearance of the restaurant, as what comes out of the kitchen is comparable to many top class restaurants found throughout the world. The food prepared by Nicolas (the owner/chef) and served by Dhea (owner/waitstaff) was simply sensational: expertly crafted, well presented, cooked to perfection and most importantly served with a smile. I personally would definitely disregard the recent ⭐️ review from Taylor Fraser, as in my opinion he/she obviously has little or no degustation dining experience. Most people know a 7 course tasting menu comprises of small dishes of high quality, seasonally sourced food and that is exactly what you get at Samphire. The $129 price was extremely good value, as our set menu offered generous tasting portions of abalone, scallop and wagyu.Reasonably priced local wines are also available on the Drinks Menu. I would also highly recommend staying at the newly renovated attached accommodation, The...

Amazing foodie fest - an absolutely winning degustation menu heroing local KI produce. Cannot recommend this venue highly enough. Walking up we thought we were up for a schnitty - imagine our surprise when Dhea welcomed us (& Lloyd the dog) with a smile and a simple decision “yes or no” to an 8 course curated local seafood-forward menu. With wine to match (we picked our own but it worked with the limited, but lovely options - I like that!), there were amazing small dishes that delivered a flavour punch every time. My favourite: the abalone- or was it the marron?! Also, the steak is next level, Chef Nicholas is Argentinian. The best thing, they asked for feedback at the close of a very memorable meal,(with Lloyds wines the main attraction - no relation to the dog I believe🤣) I don’t know when we’ll be back - but I hope you will all go and enjoy both the hosts...

Decor looks like it should be on Ramsey Kitchen Nightmares. Table was over crowded, dusty and unnecessary. Toilets squishy and outdated. Menu had been changed and we weren’t notified. If we knew we would have cancelled. Photos on the website are totally misleading, you will not receive half a lobster.

Portions were ridiculously small. Abalone looked like a poo, smothered in gross mushroom mash and was overcooked. Steak was bleeding a lot and hadn’t been rested. Come with 1 baby potato approximately 1inch round.

Place did not have the wine paring available. And charged $129 pp. Would have been happy to pay this if the food was decent.

To top it off, something...

What an amazing dining experience! We walked in not expecting too much but walked out very contented. A complete feast! Every course was perfectly done. Seafood dishes were very fresh and full of flavors. Love the charcoal grilled marron and kingfish wing. Restaurant is situated in a beautiful spot overlooking the bay. We enjoyed our dinner while watching the moon rising. Dhea and Nicholas were fantastic host. The wife and husband team certainly welcomed us very warmly. So does their dog Lloyd, we had so much fun with him! Having been to the island a few times, I would say this is the best restaurant on the island and not to be missed!
