We have stayed at the Premier Mill Hotel before and were so thrilled we just had to bring our visiting eastern states friends to experience this unusual venue as well. We had raved about it so much we were all looking forward to it again.|While it wasn't terrible, this time it just didn't shine like before. |Greeting on arrival - last time a lovely young lady who could not do enough to tell us about the hotel, what was in Katanning, dining options, room facilities etc. - this time, different person, it seemed we were a bit of an inconvenience - only a cursory greeting, offered a tour of the building, but then shuffled aside to attend to other guests behind us who were obviously more important. No information at all, not even where our rooms were. eg We had to tell our friends about the Guest Valet room and show them where it was.|Rooms - nice rooms and what we expected - but cleanliness wasn't. The rooms last time were absolutely spotless but this time dust in the floor corners - not enough time taken to mop properly?, smeary mirror in bathroom, fingermarks on light switches. etc. We paid $350.00 per room !!!|Dinner - When we stayed before there was a special dinner menu in the Dome restaurant. This time it was mostly just the usual Dome offerings. Staff were nice country kids who need a bit more training. The food seemed to us to be mostly pre-prepared and re-heated ( The lasagne was saaaad and had seen better days ) Only ONE bottle of wine on offer - but a whole bar downstairs where there were lots. When we were here last time the restaurant was full and we had to make a reservation - this time there was only about four other tables - does this tell you anything ?|Cordial Bar - This was the highlight of our visit. Jonathan and Braden were excellent. Good product knowledge and made some great suggestions. Braden had extensive knowledge and told us about the hotel history and showed us round the bar area. |Departure - No one round when we wanted to attend to our bill. We had had breakfast (OK) and we found a phone number to call re our account. Only to be told it had already been charged to our credit card. Our friends wanted to pay their own room and share of other charges. |So all in all it was OK but not up to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreKatanning accommodation just went next level! If you love wines from the Great Southern, if you enjoy exploring new places and finding out more about this quiet (but huge) corner of WA If you've tried all the "boutique" and "up market" hotels in Margs/Yallingup and found them a bit tired and dated... then you need to make a beeline for the big K and book a room at this iconic, historical landmark that has had millions spent on making it the best new hotel South (and probably North and East as well) of Perth. Come to think of it there are some pretty overpriced, pretentious hotels that could take a leaf out of this book. Rich in history, heritage and indigenous culture The Great Southern region also produces some spectacular wines and beers and Premier Mill has a terrific range in their intimate, bespoke Wine bar...(I know right... it's in Katanning.. who knew?) Whilst the staff has been procured from locals and can be a bit hit and miss at times ... chill.. their heart is in the right place and when you get a good one (Red/Emily/Pete all impressed me) they are the equal, or better, than their big smoke counterparts. Take the time to explore the curated regional self drive tours and be prepared to be amazed and as inspired to return as I was once I found out a bit about the history of the region... more than just sheep and wheat!!.
Whilst they have an onsite Dome Cafe for all day coffee & cafe eats up to 9 PM .. the friendly team did not hesitate in recommending us to several other local eateries ... top of our list was an exceptional steak, chips and fresh, fresh salad at Oskar's in the Pub 2mins up the road from the Mill Hotel.
Have a look at their Facebook page/Website for booking info/professional photos etc.
But go... just go... before everyone...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe had booked for two nights at the Premier Mill as we have stayed there previously and enjoyed the experience.||Sadly, I cannot make the same claim this time.||Firstly, on arrival we found that we had been placed in a second floor room and that the lift was not working and there were 4 flights on stairs. (we are in our 70s) This was partly compensated by giving us a drink voucher each for "The Cordial Bar" on the premises.||When we went for dinner at the Dome Restaurant that is a part of this complex that provides an after five dinner menu, we ended up having to opt for third or fourth choices and virtually everything was unavailable. We faced the same problem the next morning when attending for breakfast. ||I asked why they had virtually nothing available and was told that their delivery was more than a week overdue.||The town is less than 300 km from Perth - they could have driven there and back in a day and collected what they needed. For an enterprise of this size I find it unacceptable they were prepared to endure such a problem.||We chose not to eat there on our second night but I did attempt breakfast the second morning. I asked for scrambled eggs on toast and was told this was not available. I asked if they were now out of eggs and the reply was "NO" but they weren't doing scrambled eggs that morning.||The staff did not seem to be attentive of customers as each and every time I wanted service I had to stand and wait despite staff behind the counters and no other customers. Some gave the impression that they did not want to be there.||I am sorry that this happened as the stay was a gift for my wife and as it turned out, not a...
