Would not recommend staying at MIB if you want to get your days done, make money or feel stable and comfortable in the place you are living. ||||I arrived in Mildura with a job which ended abruptly, I waited around a month for work and then was advised by John to leave the hourly paid job he had found me for another one which ended in around a month. Someone from stopover who didnât leave was still working at the original job 2 months later whilst we were out of work.||||Itâs very different to any other hostel I have ever been in. There is no reception, John turns up maybe once or twice a day for no longer than around an hour, there are no cleaners, and no offer of work for accom. The place is so dirty though, that myself and others took it upon ourselves to deep clean certain areas. For example, I spent three hours cleaning the bathroom in my building because it was rancid. I scrubbed everything including the walls (which were WIPE CLEAN TO MY SURPRISE! So easy to clean and not even any effort put in to it). Although it made me feel slightly better, most of the grout in the tiles and the fittings such as the toilet were completely past cleaning, and I believe you would have to replace them to make the bathroom look near presentable. We also deep cleaned one of the fridges around 3 months into our stay as we had finally had enough. A bowl of noodles that I noticed on my first night there was still in there when we cleaned it, so goes to show it was not us that had put the fridges into such a condition. There is also a huge cockroach problem, I understand they are common and will get into houses especially when doors and windows are left open, but I regularly found them in the fridges and around the food storage area. From what I could tell, John, Irina and Craig do come sporadically and âcleanâ certain areas of the hostel, but one time, me and my roommate overheard Irina say to Craig when they were âcleaningâ the bathroom âyou know you have to rub that in for it to workâ talking about the bathroom cleaning spray. ||||One night at around 3am, all of the fire alarms in my building went off. We left it and it stopped. The next morning at around 6am they went off again. Annoyed at my disrupted sleep, I jumped onto the bunk bed above my room mate (an amazing feat as there was no ladder) and took it off the ceiling. That day I informed John that I had taken it off and why. Weeks later and the fire alarm still hadnât been looked at, and was still hanging off the ceiling. Another issue I had with the rooms is the storage. There wasnât much, and one day when I opened my cupboard door, which was not far off being as tall as me and was very heavy, it fell off the hinges onto me. It was also strange to me that John made a habit of âinspectingâ our rooms when we werenât there. We were often informed by the boys in the room across from us that he was in there on the odd occasion that me and my roommate were at work. One time, John took a photo of the room in a mess with all of our personal belongings in, including underwear and posted it to the MIB Facebook page trying to publicly embarrass us. My dad delivered him some home truths about the still unresolved issue of the fire alarms and the state of the fixtures and furniture in the room (my dad is a fitted furniture specialist so knows what he is talking about). John seemed to take offence to this, because any time he had an issue with me he would bring up my dad, itâs very sad that he would be so upset by a comment made on his public post by someone he doesnât even know. Obviously some truth behind it. ||||My experience here ended with me and my partner being given 2 hours to pack our things and leave after nearly 4 months of living and paying rent here. The whole hostel was warned that if any weed paraphernalia was found he would find someone to kick out, when telling us to leave he made us sit down at his desk and spoke to us like school children. He told us he didnât know or care whose the weed was but we had to leave anyway, in the middle of a global pandemic. Furthermore, when ringing around other hostels in the area trying to get in, John had told them not to accept us. He told our friend it was because he did not want weed smokers staying in his friends hostels. I find this funny because where did he think people were buying the weed from? It was also clearly an attack on n the people he didnât like in the hostel, as he returned later that night and gave 5 of our friends two days notice to leave for the same reason. It was very convenient timing seeing as he had 10 new people moving in the following week. In addition to this, there had been many occasions at the start of my stay where people who had left before this incident were smoking weed and John commented on it but did not...
Read moreWent to do my farm work and found this place. John the owner is very honest when you ring up - if he doesn't have any work he will tell you (unlike some other working hostel owners who will promise you work when they don't have it)||||The place itself is a great place to do your farm work. John works very hard to find everyone work and usually suceeds. The hostel has a good tv room with FoxTel and 2 kitchens so it is never too busy at one time. There are also 4 or 5 different bathrooms so again you never have to wait too long. The hostel is kept very clean; with a cleaner coming in every weekday to mop. The rooms are mainly 2 people in each which works out well and there is a good space outside for socialising.||||2 massive bonuses are a free bbq/meal every sunday and a monthly table tennis competition. The winner of the table tennis wins a week free rent and there are also some runner up prizes as well. ||||In conclusion this is one of the best places to do your rural work - having spoken to other people about their experiences none seemed to enjoy it quite so much as I...
Read moreI've been here for 3 months and a half, I've loved my time and miss the place greatly. There's wi-fi, transportation to work, 2 kitchens, 2 living rooms and the majority of the rooms are for 2 people and that's great for privacy, there are a few rooms that can host up to 4 people. The bed sheets are clean and you can get a fresh set when you need, there is a vacuum cleaner if you need as well. The place is also very big, and has a front and backyard, great when you want to rest in the sun and hang with people.|The position it's also great since it's very close to the town centre and there is a Woolworths just 10 minutes walk and other smaller shops even closer. A swimming pool, the library and kfc just 2 minutes away.|The owners are very nice and will try to find you a job as quick as possible depending on the season, if you respect the rules (which are mostly common sense) you won't have any problems. You'll probably meet amazing people and have...
