We reached at approximately 11pm, night security on duty directed me to park my vehicle at the underground car park. The height limit for the carpark is 2.0 meters, which is the status of the carpark noticeboard. And my rental vehicle is 1.9 meters. (they ask me to double check with rental company and we checked, it’s 1.9 meters something.) I refused to enter, but the night security insisted that the vehicle fit to enter. And he directed in front of me to enter into carpark.
After moving the vehicle, the roof of the vehicle collided against the roof of the carpark and caused the vehicle's roof dented. After which, i shifted out my car, and the security directed me to shift the car to the sandy land beside the hotel. It ended my vehicle plunged into the sand. He informed me that he would assist me in getting a towing service. However, the male officer at the hotel lobby neither provides any assistants nor help and shows a very bad attitude. He keep saying that it’s not their responsibility, I have to seek help myself. this is ridiculous!
I always believed that as a 4 stars hotel, it should be a reassuring place for tourists to stay overnight for a good rest. As such, I was confident when the security on duty guided me throughout the parking process. Unfortunately, the incident happened. and I got blamed from hotel staff???
Due to the unfriendly and unhelpful lobby receiption officers' behavior, I have no choice but to call and surf online for the towing services, until midnight. The procedure was very difficult, especially when i am a tourist and no assistant or any sympathy provided or shown from the hotel.
After I managed to arrange the towing service, I requested the lobby receptionist to give me a call when the towing company reached. After a while, I came down to check on the status, and then the towing company told me that he had arrived 15 mins ago and yet I didn't receive any call from the lobby. This is a very bad and terrifying impression. Not even a single word to showing their concern and sympathy to your customers. And also distort the truth of the whole incident while I have a word with the manager, Mr Anthony.
This will be my last stay with Metro Hotel, and this will be the unhappiness and disappointed journey in my whole Australia trip. I know I can try to claim the damage fee from car rental company, but their service is the worst I ever have.
Last but not least, their beds are not clean, we got bitten by unknown bugs, itchy...
Read moreOn arrival at check in I was greeted by very friendly and helpful staff, however I was a bit taken back by being requested for a photo ID, and and on presenting my New Zealand driver's licence being told that it was not acepted, could I show my passport? So I then had to open my suitcase on the foyer floor and find it. Come on! This is a (barely) 4 star local hotel, not exactly a gateway intenational hotel. Even at domestic airports in Australia my driver's licence has been acceptable ID, also at every other Australian hotel for that matter.
Having read previous reviews I requested a quiet room away from the highway, but I was assured that my room was now double glazed and traffic noise was no longer an issue. The check in staff were wrong on both counts! After a 12 hour night shift followed by a full day travelling I was looking forward to a long catch-up on sleep, and did not appreciate being woken by the morning rush hour from 7 am.
The room itself was "roomy" - three small rooms in fact, consisting of bedroom with double bed, lounge/kitchenette and bathroom. Confortable enough however a fairly recent freshening up of the decor does little to disguise the fact that the Metro is an aging building and somewhat outdated. It was warm enough too due to an elderly and somewhat noisy AC unit set into the wall. The bathroom was clean enough but there is nowhere in the shower to place soap or shampoo and the two piece sliding shower door looks like an original fixture and tended to stick and come off its tracks.
The "bar" is a add-in affair of separate units cobbled together in one corner of the foyer, and featured a very friendly young barman who mysteriously appeared via a diferent route to show me to my seat in the dining room.
The dining room is rather dingy and cluttered, and I have to say that I was not at all impressed with the smorgasbord on offer that night, or the breakfast next morning.
The one redeeming feature of my stay is the friendly staff who were very helpful on each occasion I asked for assistance.
One thing I must add is that I would not like to be in this hotel in the event of a fire. There are no sprinklers in the rooms or in the corridors, and although there is a brick escape stairway with fire doors at one end, the other end features a completely open full hieght stair well which would allow a fire starting on a lower floor to very quickly spread through...
Read moreStayed at Metro over the WWE Elimination Chamber weekend as it was reasonably priced and close to Optus Stadium.
Location wise, it was perfect. In every other way though, not so much.
Initially I really enjoyed my stay. The staff were friendly upon greeting me, the room had good air conditioning and was quite modern and spacious. I believe I was in one of their "executive" rooms though. My friends wasn't anywhere near as good, we'll get into that later.
After a while, small things started to become bigger issues when combined. The shower had hair everywhere which made me think that the room mustn't have been cleaned very well. A couple of days into my stay, I believe it was the day before leaving, I noticed a trail of ants crawling across the counter where the coffee/tea amenities are. It makes me wonder, being on the fourth floor, whether they have a bigger issue. Nonetheless, it was enough to ruin the experience.
Back to my friends room, I believe he was in the Economy area. It was quite old and run down, and had no working lights which was a weird choice, all the spots where bulbs should be were weirdly sealed off. One thing his room had over mine, the TV was more modern and had the ability to cast to it, while mine was older and didn't? Who made that choice? Why are executive rooms fitted with older TVs than cheaper rooms?
The final straw which made the experience quite unpleasant was the checking out. I called the night before to ask for a late checkout if possible as my flight was quite late. They offered me and extra half hour (10:30) for free, or $70 per hour thereafter. Quite expensive so I decided to go for the free extra half hour. At 10am the next morning (original checkout time), I was woken up by someone from the front desk asking why I hadn't checked out yet. Why offer me an extra half hour if you're just going to wake me up at the original time asking why I hadn't checked out?
I also left this review a week or so ago in the feedback email they send and heard nothing so they obviously have no care for customer retention or resolving room/communication issues.
Overall, wouldn't recommend the place to be honest. If one of the things above happened I'd let it slide, but all that combined was absolutely...
