We went on a week long ski trip with the family and chose Kohlerhof because of the good reviews here on Tripadvisor.||||But I guess we had some bad luck, because for starters one of the beds was broken. An hotel rep has come to our room to check it out but didn't change the bed or the room, "just let us know if you fall through, we will give you a new bed". Not a 4 star answer imo. But I must add that we didn't fall through the bed.||||Maybe that's because we didn't get that much sleep. We were in a room on the first floor on the street side, apparently right above a disco that was playing loud Schlager and dance hits accompanied by the drunk cheers of the visitors, sometimes till 4 in the morning. After the first night I told this at the reception, but they assured me this was an exception. Which of course it wasn't... ||||The rooms were very clean every day, housekeeping did a great job. There's no air conditioning and the room got quite hot at night. Too bad we couldn't open the windows because of the noise outside.||||The restaurant and service there was ok too, the staff seams cold and distant at first, but after you try to mumble some German with them, most of them were really friendly. But the restaurant is next to the bar. And in Austria you can smoke in bars. So early morning or late evening, you always smell cigarette smoke while eating your meal. Thank God we were seated in the restaurant, some people got to eat their meal IN the smokers bar, yummy...||||Make sure you check the opening times for the ski lifts, because the lifts in Fügen closed the week before we were there, so we had to drive for 25 km every day to get to Hoghfügen and back. This is not a fault of the hotel, but of the tour operator we booked our holiday with. This is why I've given only 2 stars for location, in winter I can imagine the location is superb.||||Also note that the spa is a nude spa, kids are not allowed below 16 years. We weren't told this by the tour operator either.||||So I guess this could be a much better hotel if you go in winter, without kids, learn German, start smoking and like to party...
Read moreThe service received versus the cost of the hotel was for me just not balanced, therefore the three stars. The positive: Location, the hotel is right on the piste. Really super location Size of one of the rooms, we booked a suite and had a wonderful big balcony and a big room. It was clean and modern. The bed was not really good but one could sleep. The ceiling had a beautiful lamp with little glow in the dark dots which made it look like a night sky with little stars. The other rooms come in the negative… Most of the staff, they were nice and friendly. Especially the barman, he really made the ordering of cocktails funny Negative: I booked a room with 2 bedrooms and got a room with one bedroom and a sofa bed. The booked room was no longer available. In the end they solved it by giving me 2 rooms but it cost me around 2 hours of my holiday and quite some disappointment. The bed in one of the rooms was so saggy they preferred to sleep on the couch. They smelled terrible like cigarette smoke. The afternoon snack, Theoretically from 3 to 5, reality by 3:30 was most of it gone and not replenished. You could order but had to pay. Dinner, we got told they were out of dessert even though we had dinner included, meaning we just didn’t get it. The food was also not really good. Neutral: Breakfast, it was quite ok. Not special but really fine. The sauna and nice pool area opens only after 2, so for those of us not skiing it was a disappointment, I guess though I can’t put it as negative because it is I am sure listed so on their website.
I think though we might have had a bad 3 day run. The day we left I saw the snack buffet and was much nicer set up with smaller portions. A friend had stayed there over new year’s, she was also with us, and she said food was much better over new year’s than when we were there. I think hotels have it hard with staff after Corona and we might have just had bad luck. I still can only rate my own experience and for that price I have received much better service in other...
Read moreWe spent a longer weekend here with friends in order to ski. The hotel itself is quite large so I'll break it down a little.
Tl;dr: the hotel is very good for skiing and has quite a lot of things to do when there's bad weather. we had a nice stay and might come back.
Location: perfect for skiing, right across the street from one gondola lift and a bus station that could bring you to other ski areas. You can also rent sleds and use the sledding slope from there.
Rooms: we were quite happy with our room but as we saw not all rooms were the same. In ours there was always a bit of a smell - we suspect is was because of the carpet - our friends had quite an old bathroom while the last room was directly above the après-ski part of the hotel and thus a bit noisy quite into the night.
Massages: nothing to complain. The massage was very nice and relaxing.
Spa area: a bit torn about this one. It's quite big and constructed in a way that you don't notice the other guests too much. But since people not from the hotel can buy day passes it can get very crowded, especially in the saunas. There was also one incident where one guest behaved very inappropriately - which is not the hotels fault but since there is not much staff around there wasn't that much you could do against it. Also people can order pizza to eat which is somehow very weird.
Pool area: separate from the spa area so kids could use it as well. Very nicely done although the water could have been a bit warmer - especially in the hot tub.
Food: quite decent. The buffet for breakfast is well stocked and the omlettes were amazing. Dinner usually has several courses (or another buffet) and is ordered at breakfast. Considering the amount of people served the food is very good. The eating area is also construced in a way that you don't notice how many...
