My visit to Kohlerhof in Fügen was meant to be a joyous celebration—I was part of a group of 24 colleagues, gathering for the final night of our ski trip. We arrived in high spirits, ready for a festive evening, but instead, I felt met with disorganization, poor service, and an unwelcoming atmosphere.
What Went Wrong: • A mistaken drink order led to an unnecessary back-and-forth, and even after it was acknowledged, it still took 30 minutes to receive the correct wine. • The staff felt rushed and chaotic, making the entire experience stressful rather than enjoyable. • The menu was overly extensive, making ordering difficult for both guests and servers. This became clear when I ordered a Schnitzel XXL with a side salad—only to receive an additional, unnecessary salad without being informed that one was already included. • Table service was slow and inattentive—dirty plates sat uncleared for 20 minutes, and despite closed cutlery, no one seemed to notice we were done. • Water was served in a bottle without a glass, and the cap had already been removed. When we requested a fresh bottle, we got one, but this should never have been an issue in the first place. • The lights went out for 10 minutes, adding to the general sense of disarray. • Portions were excessively large, making it nearly impossible to enjoy a full meal, including dessert. • To make matters worse, our waiter—who had already mishandled our drink order—began loudly repeating things in an exaggerated manner; it felt like she was scared to make mistakes - it made matters even worse. This was not only unprofessional but also disruptive.
The One Bright Spot: Manager Franz
To his credit, Franz, the manager, was kind and professional. He took the time to acknowledge our frustrations, sincerely apologized, and later brought schnaps as a goodwill gesture. We truly appreciated his effort—it was a sympathetic response, and it showed he cared about our experience.
However, even his kindness couldn’t undo the damage that had already been done. The root of the problem—poor service, lack of professionalism from certain staff, and an overall chaotic atmosphere—remained unresolved.
Suggestions for Improvement: Train staff on professionalism and guest experience—No guest should feel like they are being treated as a nuisance, or being part of a discussion. Streamline the menu—A more focused selection would prevent confusion for both guests and staff. Improve service efficiency—Orders should be taken and delivered correctly and in a timely manner, and tables should be cleared promptly. Portion control—Offering more moderate portions with an option to upsize would make for a more balanced dining experience. Attention to details—The small things—serving water properly, clearing plates efficiently, and ensuring a smooth guest experience—need urgent improvement.
I had wished to end our ski trip on a high note, but instead, the experience left me frustrated. Franz’s hospitality was a bright spot, but unfortunately, it couldn’t fix what was already broken. For a four-star hotel with premium pricing, this was a deeply disappointing experience. I...
Read moreA restaurant with two faces. During our trip we had a hard time making reservations for dinner, so we ended up going here twice. The first evening we enjoyed the excessive amount of food and the humorous service. It was a happy mood and enjoyable experience. 👌🏼 Day two pretty much ruined that positive experience. This time we wanted to order a la carte and, personally, I am not a big fan of restaurants offering every dish known to the world. 🤷🏻♂️ What ends up happening is that no dish is as it is supposed to be. I have never seen a French Onion soup with a toast swimming on top. 🤨 The “vegan” skewer in our meat burger with extra bacon was actually funny but the service was simply disappointing. I am not really difficult to please but this second evening was quite the...

Top!
