The Worst Hotel We’ve Ever Stayed At
This hotel is an absolute disaster, and I cannot recommend anyone to stay here. By far, this was the worst experience we’ve ever had.
Privacy? Nonexistent.
• Every morning, a truck driver would stand outside our window and stare in. The only traffic on the road in front of the window consisted of large trucks.
• Construction noise began early every morning. They were drilling directly outside our window, and workers were climbing up ladders in front of it throughout the day.
Dark as a Cave • The room was pitch black. We had to keep the lights on all day. • It was located on the lowest floor, right next to a stone wall behind the road. • No cell phone reception—absolutely unacceptable.
Special warning: Avoid Room 212 at all costs!
To make matters worse, we visited during the off-season when the hotel was nearly empty, yet we were given by far the worst room in the entire place. Unbelievable!
Terrible Service
Worse than the room was the service. There was no sign of friendliness or professionalism. Some examples: • Upon arrival, we had to load our luggage onto a trolley ourselves. No one came to help—for a full 40 minutes! • During check-in, they took our passports and promised to check us in quickly. Instead, we were completely ignored. For over an hour, staff walked past us without acknowledging us. Eventually, someone came and claimed they “forgot what we looked like”—even though we were sitting right in front of them, they had our passports with photos, and the lobby was empty!
The staff, especially the managers, seem solely focused on money. Friendliness or helpfulness? Nonexistent. Everything was done with a bad attitude and obvious reluctance. The hotel feels like a labor factory, where cheap workers are brought in from abroad and exploited during the winter season.
Shocking Behavior During Our Stay
The terrible service extended throughout our entire stay. One example:
On the first day of our ski trip, we parked our car at the Fleckalm base station. At the end of the day, however, we found ourselves stranded at the Hahnenkamm lift station in Kitzbühel because the lift that was supposed to run until 5 PM stopped taking skiers at 4:05 PM.
We called the hotel and asked if the free shuttle—which normally runs between the hotel and the ski station—could bring us to the Fleckalm base station instead. It’s only 8 minutes away (instead of the usual 5 minutes to the ski station), and the shuttle was not busy since there were hardly any skiing guests. It was 4:30 PM at the time.
At first, the staff member said it wouldn’t be a problem and that they would pick us up. But shortly after, they called back to say the manager had forbidden it. Even after we explained multiple times that we were stranded and urgently needed help, the answer was a firm “No.” No exceptions, no flexibility.
For a 5-star hotel at this price point, such “service” is completely unacceptable.
Conclusion
This hotel was a complete disappointment—from the room quality to the noise to the unfriendly and unprofessional service. We have never had such a bad experience and cannot recommend this hotel to anyone. It is absolutely not worth...
Read moreStayed here for 5 nights in early March of 2016. Overall, the hotel is very nice. Rooms have beautiful balconies, are pretty spacious, have nice storage closets to put your ski clothes in. Spa facilities are extremely nice, with the exception that the ice room as well as the steam room were not working. Saunas were hot and overall, the entire hotel was very clean. Breakfast was lovely, with a lot of choices, but could have offered some variety throughout the days as over the course of 5 days, we became somewhat tired of what was offered. Additionally, the hotel is close to town - 7 minutes drive away. While it was a nice stay, I do have some criticisms (hence, the 4 star rating). The room we booked was a king bed, but what we actually found was two twin beds pushed together. It made for a rather uncomfortable sleeping experience. Additionally, the worst part about the hotel was the Ski Rental Shop. Staff was extremely rude and unfriendly. I tried to explain that my boots were way too tight (to the point the circulation was being cut off), the girl seemed more amused and insisted that's the way the boots were supposed to fit. I said that while I was a 'beginner' skier, I did own my own boots - and have gone enough times to know better. We paid on our credit card for one day and they told us if we wanted it for a second day to let them know. We decided to go skiing for only one day, and returned the boots to their 'boot room'. Two days later, we walked in to rent snow shoes. She asked us if we had used the ski's for the second day. I said no, we would have re-rented them, if we were going to. Nothing was discussed further, we rented the snow shoes and left and returned them at the end of the day. Long story short, upon check-out, we noticed a 100 euro charge to our bill for our stay from the ski shop. Apparently they tried to charge us for the second day. I immediately walked into the ski shop to show them the receipt that we paid for one day on our credit card, and that we did not rent the boots for a second day - the man in the shop did not want to hear it and immediately told me to quiet down my voice. (It wasn't loud what so ever - but I did want to fully explain that he was in the wrong). He didn't want to hear it, and started shaking his head at me, was extremely rude. Long story short - they deducted it off of the bill, but he wouldn't even look at me and was extremely rude and angry. My advice, is Grand Tirolia is wonderful, but I wold rent the ski equipment in town - there are other shops also of the "Ski 2000" family right in town, and from what I hear, you can also save more money renting in town; and you can avoid...
Read moreI recently stayed at Grand Tirolia in Kitzbühel and while the hotel has many positive sides, there were also some major disappointments that simply shouldn’t occur in a 5-star hotel.
The new part of the hotel is absolutely stunning – beautifully designed with great attention to detail. The newly renovated spa is phenomenal, modern and luxurious. One small suggestion would be to dim the lights in the “silent room” of the spa – they are way too bright and disturb the relaxing atmosphere that room is meant to offer.
Unfortunately, the service side of the hotel does not match its luxurious appearance. There is no telephone in the room, which means that all communication goes through the hotel app, where they list several phone numbers. This system is very inconvenient and unnecessarily complicated. On top of that, the reception never answered on the first call, and in the evening, the staff seemed to be hiding in some back room rather than at the front desk. You literally have to wait until someone notices you and comes out – this is absolutely not the level of service expected from a 5-star property.
Another major issue was that our TV didn’t work for two full days, and we were told that no technician was available to fix it. We received no apology or compensation for this, which is unacceptable in a hotel of this category. In 2025, having no working TV in a luxury room is simply ridiculous.
The room service menu is also extremely limited. In a hotel of this standard, you expect to be able to order almost anything from the restaurant menu to your room – this was far from the case.
Overall, the facilities are beautiful and the new areas of the hotel are impressive, but the service and management need serious improvement. For these reasons, I can only give 3 stars – and that’s being generous, purely because of the beautiful...
