We had a lovely stay in Salzburg and firstly I'd recommend the city to anyone. However, I'd caution against staying at the Turnerwirt.
The room was small and very warm for us, even in June. Opening the window wasn't an option as the main road is right outside, and there was no air conditioning.
It was noisy from other residents most nights, probably because the hotel is used for coach travellers. And the road noise as mentioned.
Some of the basics, such as we had a twin bed despite booking a double were missed. The power socket for the bedside light was in the middle of the headboard, so I banged my head on it. And was superfluous as the bedside light didn't work. And if you have any form of back or neck problems, definitely bring your own pillow!
The ensuite was very small - so much so that the gap between the loo and the bathroom wall was only a centimetre or so. And the towel rail was above the loo too. The fan was loud and continued long after the room was used.
We didn't try the breakfast, so can't comment as to it's quality. 8 EUR per person we found it a lot more convenient to go to the Penny Markt just down the road.
In it's good points, the town centre is about 2 miles away, but the bus stop is right outside the hotel, so that was a breeze to manage each day. And the Gaizberg hill is close.
The cleaning staff are very efficient and the room was clean. However, they let themselves in without knocking and there are no Do Not Disturb signs provided or chains on the door to prevent it.
Finally, they took our money twice - once at booking and when we checked out they insisted it wasn't paid. So we had to pay and have not received all the money back. A real summary of their attituted to...
Read moreI have to blame myself for selecting this place. In fairness, my family didn't think it was as horrible as I did, except for the location, so I am giving it a 2 instead of 1. I booked a family room for a night, and foolishly believed the reviews that said it wasn't far to get to the interesting sights and that it was comfortable. When checking in, a sloppy guy smoking like a chimney was very uninterested in us and didn't bother to take the cigarette out of his mouth. It made me feel like I was checking into a flophouse. The family room for four was much too small for four grown people and I should have looked at real photos or read more reviews. The building is okay from the outside, but it is on a busy, noisy main road. We had to take a taxi or bus, which added up to another nearly $40 a day. Walking would have taken 45 minutes. ||||Our room smelled bad, and it seemed to be coming from the drain in the bathroom floor. We covered it with a towel which helped. There is no AC which probably isn't often necessary in Salzburg, but with four people would have been nice. The furnishings were old and hideous, the decor was hideous. I wish I had spent the extra money and stayed closer to the old town. I would not be happy to bring...
Read moreThe workers are extremely rude and unaccommodating . They also attempt to hit you with additional fees and costs at every corner. Breakfast is an additional 14 euros per person, it is not included. Along with this, we were charged an additional fee that was nearly 10 euros for being two girls staying in the room which was not previously disclosed before booking. Both workers were also very rude towards both of us whenever we were checking in or checking out. Along with this we tried to get water and were rudely followed and yelled at as apparently that is only for people who pay for breakfast. The rooms are very crowded and small, as well as extremely outdated. The tile in the bathroom was cracked and dirty along with this. Simply put for how much they are charging the conditions are unacceptable. In addition to this the location is horrible. This hotel can not seem to have an upside. Along with rude workers and unsatisfactory living conditions the location is far. It is far from town, any type of transportation system, and there is nothing near it where you can eat or explore. Overall, we had a very negative experience here. I would recommend...
