We've just returned from a summer holiday (via Tui). Overall, the hotel was very good (with a couple of issues, see below). The food is buffet style and great for kids. At dinner, there's always some salad, pasta, chips, along with different mains per day. No lunch but you can pack a lunch at breakfast time (bags are provided).||Facilities-wise, there's a nice little pool in the basement with some saunas nearby. Also a table tennis table but we didn't try this. Not much else.||In the summer, you get a free summer card which gives you free daily access to the nearby Water World, and small discounts in various places (and 1 euro bus rides). It's worth getting the 5 for 7 gondola ticket online for the Flying Mozart etc, you need to get this from the Snow Space website and it's the cheapest option even with the summer card discount. Lots of great hikes from the tops of the gondolas.||Now the negatives. The location of the hotel is in Kirchboden which is up on a hill above Wagrain "proper". If you go down into Wagrain then it's a hefty climb back up unless you're fortunate enough to sync with the free bus. The hotel is near the Water World and the Flying Mozart, but the Grafenberg gondola is down in Wagrain itself. Otherwise, it was very hot when we were there and the rooms have no aircon or fan (which is fine), meaning during the night we wanted to keep the balcony door open to get some airflow going. However, people can smoke on the balconies (just not in the rooms) which was a major pain. Finally, the wifi isn't great in rooms (much better in the dining area).||Overall, we had a great time, many thanks to everyone...
Read moreStayed for a week in Hotel Kirchboden, in the winter high season. Based on the reviews and photos on the internet, we expected a cozy, hospitable, typical Austrian hotel. The appearance, rooms, staff and food were very good, but the experience of this week's winter sport was unfortunately not as expected.
First, the hotel was only aimed at Danish guests. Nothing wrong with that, but they forget that there were other guests with other nationalities as well. The staff was very kind and helpful, but, except for one man, the entire staff was Danish and hardly spoke any other language.
Secondly, the hotel has different rules, but these are not respected by anyone, nor are they enforced by staff or management. For example: Guests talk and scream early in the morning and late at night in the hallways, walk on socks through the restaurant, walk in swimsuits and barefoot through the hotel to get to and from the wellness, children run and scream through the corridors from day to night, loud music in the middle of the night and so on. If you ask the other guests if they can be a little bit quiet, because you want to rest, you will only be told: 'No, I won't, because it is a family hotel here'. We filed a complaint at the reception at checkout and the only thing we get to hear was: 'we hope that you can find another stay next time than.' No sorry or anything.
We have traveled a lot and have stayed in many hotels, but this hotel really was the worst experience we have ever had. We will never return to this hotel and will definitely not...
Read moreLike most of the reviewers of this hotel I stayed here on a nine day holiday with National Holidays. We had a room overlooking the front terrace and without a balcony. The room was large and comfortable. The bathroom was large with a shower cubicle only and no bath. The room was cleaned and tidied every day by hotel staff. The views from our window were beautiful, overlooking mountains with small chalet houses scattered about in the trees.||We also had the 8.00 pm dinner time which we found to be fine as you can go down earlier and take advantage of the free bar for a pre dinner drink. There was always a good choice of food, including at least one vegetarian option and a children's menu.||As other reviewers have mentioned you are allowed to make up sandwiches at breakfast time to take with you on your excursion that day. This is assisted by the hotel providing cling film and bags for your pack up.||The hotel provides soup and a roll at lunch time and cake at 4.00 pm for all guests travelling with National Holidays.||Staff at the hotel and friendly and helpful and very much look the part always dressed in national costumes.||I would very much recommend this hotel and would definitely visit there again.||I would also recommend the National Holidays trip. Yes it is a long two day journey each way but the drivers endeavor to make this as comfortable as they can with regular stops en route. The overnight stops are also spent in...
