The staff here are incredibly nice. The beach is beautiful, and the food is really good. The facility is quaint and, to me, preferable in a romantic way to these super modern super big sanitized resorts. By the way, the local restaurants are really good too.||Some foot-faults though. Room sign says call front desk for ice. Did that and was quite miffed to be asked by the front desk when can I come down and pick up the ice. I said I’d like it delivered to the room – okay he said. Two hours later and two or three more phone calls the ice finally arrives. ||Duly ordered in the afternoon a taxi to meet us at the property at 5:45 pm to take us to our 6 pm dinner reservation – and at the restaurants around here if you’re late they give your table away. We arrived 5 minutes before appointed cab time and no cab ever showed. Got an emergency ride from hotel security which was really nice. But, low and behold, we got the restaurant late and our table was indeed given away – the penalty for lateness. We did manage to get another one but only because we were lucky. ||The last night here on property we go to dinner a bit early – 6 PM – and make an ask to get the room turned down at 6 while we were out of the room at dinner. Return at 8 pm from dinner and room is not made up.||There was also the problem of the one entitled guest who holds repeated loud business Zoom calls every day from the pool area. This is so rude and only total jerks do this – but there are a lot of entitled total jerks out there these days at resorts. The resort should implement a no Zoom call rule. ||We brought the foot-faults to the staff’s attention upon checkout and they were very attentive to us. On the cab they did mention that they are dealing with third parties and sometimes reliability is a problem. There are only 3 taxis on the entire Island – 2 drivers having retired lately. We suggested a hotel car or shuttle would remedy the problem but they said the taxi folks don’t like that because it cuts into their business. Well, the taxi folks can’t have it both ways – but apparently, they do ||Anyway, we...
Read moreI have been going to the Island for years and had been to the Dunmore several times in the past. We booked a reservation for dinner at Dunmore - way in advance - and provided our credit card to reserve it. Thank God we went to see if we could adjust the time on the day of...because they had no record of the reservation. I provided them their confirmation email. We were celebrating 2 birthdays and Dunmore was sold out for dinner reservations. They told me someone would call. The Exec Chef called and told me they would accommodate us but it would have to be near the pool outside - not the main dining area. Ok - we were good with that. We arrived prior to our 8pm reservation, did not get seated till 9pm. When it rained on our entire table - we ere back to waiting and lost our appetizers to the rain. No attempt to provide others. We waited again for a table for the dining room. Finally sat down and got our main meals. We were there till at least 10:30pm. Next day - I go to the gift shop to return a birthday gift. They told me they do not accept returns. There was no sign and we were never told they did not do returns. They mentioned they had a sign but it was not up. They told me they would talk to a manager and call me back. I left. No call. So I went back. They refused to let me retun it. I was forced to find something equivalent in value, but nothing matched my taste and I settled for a dress at half the price. We finally convinced the manager to let us use the credit for lunch or something. Absolute ridiculous service thorugh and through. After all the trouble the night before and then the gift shop issue, their arrogance was disgusting. No one ever came to our table or apologized for all the issues. Our waitress was very nice and the food was excellent but after spending a few thousand dollars between meals and gift shop - you would think - since it was their errors, they would help us out or come talk to us. Nope. Very disappointing. Good job on the food and drinks - the rest was a very...
Read moreThe Dunmore is a very nice hotel comprised of cottage rooms, scattered throughout a lovely, Oceanside property. For what it is, it is very expensive and staff were not as welcoming or friendly as I expected.
The staff are also not very prompt or attentive in terms of customer service and you have to very much be on Bahamian time, which is slow and even slower than a lot of other Latin and European countries, in my opinion. The food on property was quite yummy. There is free coffee and pastries at the bar in the morning.
There was no service to be had at the pool or the beach when I was there, there was only one or two guys taking care of both locations, I was thinking maybe it’s not too much to ask that I can order a drink poolside for what was presented to us as a couple thousand dollar a night luxury resort. Also, half the property lost power for a couple hours at a time on a very regular basis, and that made it difficult to get ready for dinner time. I also heard stories about Water going out regularly, but thankfully that did not happen to us.
Harbor Island itself is just about like every other Caribbean destination you may have been to where there is evidence of weather damage, construction repair, and the environment off property is significantly different economically than the environment on property.
Don’t be sold a story about celebrities frequenting Harbor Island or the Dunmore being very upscale and exclusive. They are expensive and run of the mill Bahamas. The only efficiency I saw all week long was the way they processed my credit card. We would not recommend nor...
