We had booked to stay at R&Breakfast last year, but unfortunately, for one reason and another, it wasn't possible! However, I was determined to stay in this Bed and Breakfast on a subsequent visit to West Flanders. It was most definitely the right decision.||||Firstly, as other people have commented, Lex is a delightful and professional host. He makes all his guests feel welcome, and generates a lovely, convivial atmosphere. Breakfasts were most enjoyable...sharing lovely Belgian cheeses, meats and speciality breads and having interesting and stimulating conversations with couples from other countries. Despite the vote of just 52% in the UK....we are 'toujours européens', and will continue visiting and enjoying the culture of neighbouring countries.||||The accommodation at R&Breakfast is exceptionally clean (important to me after a stem-cell transplant, and compromised immune system). Our room was tastefully and comfortably furnished. It was so peaceful that we slept like babies!||||During our stay, we visited Thermen R which is an excellent local Spa/Wellness. If you are visiting Bruges, Ypres and Ghent, and feel the need for rest and relaxation, we can thoroughly recommend this Thermen with a variety of saunas, steam room and indoor/outdoor pool.||||We can pay this B&B no better compliment, than to state that we shall return....

I work for the UN in Holland and travel a lot, so I appreciate a good place when I find it! ||||The owner, Lex, is the most caring host you could hope for, with a great sense of humour to boot. He's somehow managed to strike the perfect balance between stylish spotlessness and warm homeliness. ||||The beds are super comfy, the rooms large and clean, and the breakfast simple but delicious, with (my favourite) fig bread and local cheese, etc. He even had Marmite for any strange English guests (like me) passing by!||||The only thing I would change? Why put an American Twix by the bed when Belgium has the best chocolate in the world? ||||For the rest, Roeselare city centre, with surprisingly good shops, is a 10-minute walk away; the beautiful Belgian countryside a 10-minute drive out of town; and the Channel Tunnel in Calais just over an hour away. Read moreThe difference between a good b&b and a great b&b is the owner who in this case is Lex.|We had the red room which has a south facing terrace which is perfect for relaxing during warm evenings but there are two other rooms. |We stayed at R&Breakfast with our little dog who was on his best behaviour and we were given a very warm welcome by Lex and his mother. |Breakfast was delicious as all the food was sourced locally and we enjoyed our conversations with Lex who has excellent local knowledge.|We wouldn't hesitate in recommending a stay here as it is very easy to drive to and the city of Roeslare has everything you need and is also a great base to drive to Gent, Bruges, Ostend and Ypres|The owner had invested time and effort to make his business the best B&B...
