Most of the hotels in San Ignacio are away from the center of town and sometimes pretty far away. The Cohune Palms is also out of town but not a long drive to go back to restaurants or shops. Of course it's setting feels so different from the town, in a good way. One needs to know that it has a more rustic feel than some of the higher priced places, but that is what we came for. No televisions, A/C, etc. However, they have fans in the rooms and even though I was worried about the heat my worries were unfounded as it cools off well at night and the location makes it cool during the day. We had a car and so it was easy to get around from the Cohune Palms and they were kind enough to let us leave our car there as we went over to Guatemala for a couple of days. When we came back we took a taxi from town and the cost was only 5BZE per person. I would think that the food would be quite good but we only had breakfast there one day, for I think 12USD, and it was really good. What you realize when you arrive is that many of them are waaaaaaay out of town on bumpy dirt roads, or right on the pleasant but noisy streets of San Ignacio. Cohune Palms is 10 minutes from town but you'll feel a million miles from everything. The Mopan River flows in front of their decks which are draped with hammocks and palms and the outdoor dining room features the stellar cooking of Melanie. The cabanas are simple and comfortable and the grounds are beautifully maintained with gardens, labelled native trees and countless birds. Whiskey the dog will be your guide as you walk into town and he's a blast. Don't forget tubing from the bridge and...
Read moreCohune Palms really has a lot going for it. The property is truly beautiful , nestled in the middle of the jungle, with access to the river and animals roaming during the day. The staff is kind and helpful, but while the rooms have potential, they really are not well kept. Forget about mosquitoes, we found many cockroaches in the bathroom, big unknown stains on the bed sheets, and dust all over the room. I really wanted to enjoy this place and all it had to offer, but unfortunately, the lack of attention to the living areas really prevented me from doing so. They market themselves as a resort, but in reality it is equivalent to camping. For this price point, save yourself some stress and find a property with more...
