The hotel is located North of Placencia Village in a more “private” area that will require you to take a taxi to get anywhere in the area. We used their complimentary bikes to ride around the peninsula but the village is definitely too far to ride a bike on. The bike seats were a little uncomfortable for a far ride, but their beach cruiser style and probably get a lot of use. Perfect to do a little exploring. The hotel was well maintained and clean, it has a dock that goes out into the water, there are paddle boards and kayaks for complimentary use, and there is a pool. The beach was raked and cleaned every morning and a couple times throughout the day, which I’m sure helped with the sand flies. I was unfortunately the one in our group that the sand flies loved, plus I was allergic, so I woke up the first three nights itching like crazy! The owner said to use rubbing alcohol on them, but by then I had bought their bye bye sand fly potion from the gift shop and also some tiger balm from in town, so they stopped itching after 3 days. I also avoided the beach and sat on the paddleboard in the water for most of the day, if I wasn’t SUP. The rooms were relatively clean, the housekeepers came every other day, so we had to request a lot of stuff we kept running out of like coffee and coffee creamer. The bed in the living area of the coconut room where we stayed had a bent bed frame, so I had to sleep on the edge of the bed in order not to sink in. Otherwise the room was fine, the air conditioning dripped condensation onto the bed pillows. The patio was awesome, we sat outside drinking our coffee and enjoying the tides rolling in, there was a beautiful sunrise in the morning and the hotel was quiet and peaceful. Definitely a place to relax and unplug completely. The paddle boarding was phenomenal from 8 am to 2 pm and that’s when the wind started to pick up more, so we usually finished the beach around 3 pm. The highlight of our stay was definitely the bistro, we ate there three meals a day, breakfast and lunch were never crowded and we always had reservations for dinner but didn’t really need them in December. The dinners were amazing, the seafood was fresh and the sauces and seasonings were perfection. The service was phenomenal, they knew me and greeted me by name, same as the front desk hotel staff, they were great and personable and extremely helpful with everything. Due to the sand flies and also the bout of diarrhea we all had for an entire week after 3 days is why I can’t give 5 stars. The room had filtered water and the restaurant seemed to serve filtered water, but the last three days the ice machine was broken and they had ice delivered in from off site in bags. I’m not sure if it was the water or how food being washed or prepared, but we all got sick for half of our stay and it lasted another week once we got home. We had a taxi take us to the pharmacy twice to get Imodium to survive the rest of the trip without spending our days in the bathroom. It’s a three star hotel, so I would say for that, they are above expectations. I would definitely return, but I would bring more bug spray, anti itch cream for sand flies and probably only drink bottled water and most definitely bring lots of Imodium. For the price per night and the value, I would say we got a really great deal. The service, food, peacefulness and calm beach are what stood out the most. We had been to San Pedro about 20 years ago and loved it, but decided to try Placenicia this time and glad we did. We took a shuttle to the hotel in hopes of seeing a bit of nature and the surrounding area, but there wasn’t much to see or experience on the drive, I would recommend skipping the shuttle and opting to fly instead. Make sure your puddle jumper is direct, the hotel didn’t book us a direct flight, so it was double the time and also...

The beachfront apartment and bungalows were comfortable, clean, and almost all of them have a great view of the beach and the water. They also have a fun covered swing and hammock set up on a dock that is located out over the water. Keep your eyes open for an opportunity to spend a little quiet time there with your partner.
Most notable is the Bistro. In no uncertain terms, the restaurant is excellent. You'll want to try everything on the menu and you won't be disappointed no matter what you choose. They went out of their way to get a lobster for me on the day that the season opened even though they didn't have any ... just because I asked.
Service here was outstanding. Everyone will bend over backwards to help you with anything you want. The front desk was so helpful that they even have WhatsApp setup, so you can ask for anything you may want without having to go there! The concierge service was a pleasure to work with.
We were even able to arrange for a couples massage privately on the terrace of our room!
To be fair, the only ding I can offer is that you will notice that the seaweed washes up regularly so there is a constant line of it on the beach by the waterfront. They try to clean that up occasionally, but it's always there. You experience this in many places.
Overall, it's highly recommended, especially if you can get a last minute room with a discount. That's...
Read moreMaya Beach Hotel is a cute stop right off of Placencia Road towards the top of the peninsula. The service was excellent - all staff members we encountered were kind and friendly. The Bistro is a restaurant in the hotel with open-aired views of the beach. A cute gazebo sits at the end of the dock and has a bench swing and hammock and some Christmas lights at night. There is also a ladder so you can get in and swim around out there. The room was sparse but had everything we needed. The little kitchenette made it easy to cook meals which we did to save a little bit of money. There was also AC which was huge and helped keep the room comfortable. A small TV is on the wall and there is fairly reliable WiFi. All of the outlets are US as well which was perfect. Our room had a pool right out front and we never had anyone else using it so it felt very private and quiet. There are chairs all along the beach as well as kayaks and paddle boards available for use. Bikes are also available and were helpful in getting to and from the little market or just to take a quick little ride. The hotel is about a 25 minute drive from the town of Placencia, but there are lots of other resorts and restaurants around, as well as a small grocery store. The closest gas station is in Seine Bight, about 10 minutes south by car. It’s not the fanciest or most beautiful in terms of the buildings themselves, but the property is lovely, quiet, and so peaceful and I would...
