Ah, the joys of a Tropical Storm in November.
We were excited to book and stay with Tres Cocos in a paradise like Belize. Tropical Storm Sara had other plans and cancelled flights to Belize City, shut down flights out of Belize City to San Pedro, and shut down the water taxi. Unless we swam to the island during the storm, there was no way to get there despite every intention of wanting to stay.
Tres Cocos is unwilling to refund our stay and instead has decided to keep our money despite not staying with them. To be fair to the hotel, a credit was offered to stay within one year but I would prefer (as most people would) a refund. Don't expect flexibility when dealing with this hotel.
Thank you responding. I have several things to add to this.
"Your booking was made through Hotels.com under a Nonrefundable rate plan, and the payment terms were determined by the third-party platform. Since we did not handle your payment directly, we were unable to process a refund."
Hotels.com, on every occasion, stated they could not grant a refund and only your hotel could. I paid Hotels.com so that’s why I went through their support.
"We encouraged you to contact Hotels.com for support, as they could authorize a refund, but you declined."
This is simply not true. I went back and forth with Hotels.com, starting one day before our scheduled stay. Each time, they indicated that only your hotel could authorize a refund.
"Additionally, your request for a refund came several days after your scheduled arrival, further complicating resolution options."
Once again, this is simply not true. A refund request was made through hotels.com one day before the scheduled stay. It took 4 days for you to get back to them and you indicated there would be no refund or credit. Only after weeks of back and forth with hotels.com did they indicate you would be granting a credit.
"Despite these limitations, we extended a goodwill offer of a full credit for a future stay within a year, which remains available to you." Thank you. I appreciate the credit but as you may understand, Belize is about 3000 miles away and a credit would require planning a whole new trip. Hotel bookings, new flights, time away from work, more activities which may be feasible and definitely enjoyable but the flexibility and goodwill of a refund would go much further in...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I LOVED this hotel!!! It was the best place we stayed at in our Belize trip in May, 2024. When you check in, you receive a free drink. We paid for the romantic package and so they had chocolates, champagne, bottle of wine, case of Belekin (local beer) and decorations in the room! It was totally worth the extra cost.
The room itself was amazing. First, it had a lock with a code on front door, so no need for keys. The bedroom was separated from the restroom, kitchen, and living room. The kitchen had a full fridge, connected to a 5 gallon bottle of water. Having that water was HUGE in Belize where foreigners shouldn't drink unfiltered water! All the other hotels since then did not provide us with purified water and it was a nightmare to get enough water for us. There was also a microwave, coffee pot, electric stove, and nice sink. We really only used microwave, and no coffee provided but cheap to just get at the store. The AC in the room was amazing, there is one in the living room and one in the bedroom. The patio was awesome, looked right onto the ocean. It had two lounge chairs and a hammock. There are also a lot of stray cats that are so cuuute! One thing I would say that is negative but outside of their control is the water on this side of the island wasn't as clean as other parts. I also wished they had a gate on our balcony so we could walk straight onto the beach.
The location is farther away for the hustle and bustle of San Pedro, but we wanted that. We had a gold cart rental so we were able to go into town when we needed too.
The restaurant at the hotel is actually REALLLY good! We probable had the best food we had on our trip. The bartender we had on 5/17 at 8am in the morning was so awesome and friendly! The restaurant opens at 7am, great for an early riser like me.
Lastly, best part about this hotel is they are VERY responsive via whatsapp. It made things so much more convenient and seamless. When I go back to Belize, I will definitely...
Read moreThought i would offer a review with a little about the area also. We are here at Tres Cocos the second week of April. Tres is North of the main city but still surrounded by shops/ stores and people. Not loud mind you. The ocean in front of TC as you likely read is not a swim beach but i suspect that depends on the currents and weather. The swim this morning was nice with the water being warm and shallow. We bought a beer at the DIVE BAR next door and they let us use(for free) the kayaks and a stand up paddle board with life jacket. We shall eat, drink, and rent our snorkel tour all from this wonderful place. The water today is less grassy, clear and warm. No clue, but the crowds are small and i’m guessing this is not a busy season for Belize?? Perfect for us! Tres Coco’s is a condo resort. Middle of the road. We were looking for something under $200 per night so this fits our budget. You can tell the management listens to the reviewers as there are people cleaning the sand, pool, and walkways daily. Lot’s of lounge chairs all around the beach and pool area. The pool itself is small but clean and refreshing. We picked an ocean view/ front room and the view on this top floor is to die for. Way hot and humid so glad the rooms have a/c (and cable and wifi and a kitchen). Tres Cocos even has a big water dispensary in our room. YES! The front desk said to simply let them know when we run out and they will refill with pure/safe water. Renting a golf cart is the way to go if you are wanting to get around. It can be expensive, but we were solicited at the boating dock upon arrival and the person offered us 4 days at ½ price. We jumped on that deal. Roads are very narrow and bumpy. Can’t see having a car here. Food is expensive unless you are creative. And yes, secret beach...
