Pousada Recanto do Atalaia — Hotel in Região Geográfica Imediata de Cabo Frio

My wife and I were here with my mum and we made the reservation through mail with the owner. The answers always arrived quickly and we were offered different ways to pay the balance. We chose to make a bank transfer of the total payment.||||This was the only mistake we can attach to the experience with this hotel. As we apparently were the first to transfer to his bank, he didn't know that the bank charge a fee to manage the transfer from abroad. This fee is 30 USD....||||So when our money was in his bank, he found out that the total was going to be deducted this fee and thereby the whole nightmare began....! Our money was locked in an account in the bank, because the owner didn't allow the bank to deduct its fee and therefore refused to have it transferred to his own personal account. To us he made up a lie that the bank was on a strike and that he didn't know when it was going to end.||||Thereby we were trapped between his bank, his missing will to accept the deduction and different coverup stories. We made the transfer 5 months before the arrival, and when we knocked on the door of the hotel - the situation was still not solved. The bank didn't want to send the money back unless they were paid for it - was not going to happen and he didn't want to receive the payment deducted the fee..... So when checking in we had to pay the total balance one more time plus an additional fee of 50 USD to make the bank send the money back to my account.||||The whole process, the way the owner handled the situation (or didn't handle) was very stressful and disatisfying to us. To make a long story short - we made him go to the bank with us to solve the problem and there the story was different from that we were told upfront. We even had to wait additional 2 months after the stay before we finally received our money back !!||||All this mentioned just to advice future guests: DON'T transfer money......||||The stay:||||Hotel is very well kept, clean, nice location, good service and a friendly owner.||||Great breakfast with bread, cheese, ham, coffee, fresh fruits, huices and fresh baked cakes every day....VERY delightful....and the owners were all the time filling up, so nobody had to wait.||||The rooms are spacious, nice bathroom and hot water. There is no A/C, still only the old fashioned fan and that is a big down-side.||||Pool: It is not so big, but nice as you dont use it during the day anyway. The area around with chairs and tables and umbrellas.||||Everything is kept very clean.||||If we go back - we would pay with credit card and stay here...

Wir haben Februar 2014 in der Pousada Reconto do Atalaia 4 schöne Tage verbracht. Die Pousada liegt fast direkt an der Praia Grande. Ein großer Supermarkt ist ganz in der Nähe. Zum Ortszentrum sind es knapp 10 Minuten und zur Praia dos Anjos ca. 15 Minuten zu Fuß. Da die Pousada leicht erhöht liegt, hat man von allen Balkonen (auch vom 1. OG.) einen sehr schönen Blick über den Ort und sieht sogar das Meer an der Praia dos Anjos. Das Gebäude besteht aus 4 Geschossen. Im Erdgeschoss wird Frühstück serviert, im 1. bis 3. OG sind die Zimmer/Apartments. Die Erschließung erfolgt über Laubengänge kombiniert mit (durchgehenden) Balkonen. Dadurch haben die Zimmer/Apartments keinen privaten Balkon und die anderen Gäste laufen direkt vor dem Fenster/der Tür her. Da es aber zwei Treppenaufgänge gibt und insgesamt nur 10 Zimmer, hält sich der Verkehr in engen Grenzen. Im obersten Geschoss ist man für sich. Der andere Nachteil der Bauweise ist, dass die Zimmer recht dunkel sind, weil sie zum Balkon/Laubengang ausgerichtet sind. Sonne auf dem Balkon gibt es nur bis mittags.||Die Zimmer Nr. 1 bis 4 liegen im 1. OG, Nr. 5 bis 8 im 2. OG und Nr. 9 und 10 ganz oben im 3. OG. ||||Die Betreiber sind Fred und Marcia. Fred war sehr engagiert, freundlich, hilfsbereit und jederzeit zur Stelle. Er war quasi immer schon da, noch bevor wir selbst wussten, dass wir etwas von ihm wollen könnten. Fred spricht sehr gut englisch und kümmert sich um alle Belange. ||||Insgesamt fanden wir die Pousada sehr gepflegt und penibel sauber. Unsere Betten waren tadellos, das Badezimmer und die Dusche sehr geräumig. Auch der Pool wurde immer gereinigt. Fred hält sehr auf Ordnung. Handtücher durfen nicht auf die Balkonbrüstungen zum Trocknen aufgehängt werden.Wenn Gäste am Frühstücksbuffet mal einen Tropfen Kaffee oder einen Spritzer Saft verkleckerten, wischte er gleich die Flecken weg. Das Frühstücksbuffet sah damit immerhin jederzeit tiptop aus. ||||Das Frühstück war angesichts der überschaubaren Zimmer- und Gästezahl recht gut, abwechlungsreich und reichlich. Es gab Kaffee, Tees, Säfte, Brötchen, Käse (meist 2 Sorten), Aufschnitt, Obst (Melone, Papaya, Ananas und Bananen), Fruchtjoghurt aus dem Becher, Müsli/Frühstücksflocken und immer auch Kuchen. Leider weder Tomaten, noch Gurken und auch keine Eier. ||||Der Pool liegt ab nachmittags im Schatten und es gab auch keine richtigen Liegestühle. Angesichts der vielen Top-Strände vor der Nase mag man sagen, dass das auch nicht nötig ist. Aber Arraial do Cabo ist ein windiger Ort, wo es oft kühler ist als an anderen Ecken. Auch an den Stränden weht immer ein kräftiger Wind (wir haben an der Praia Grande Sonnenschirme, Tische und Stühle durch die Gegend fliegen sehen). Mit dem Wind kann es am späteren Nachmittag am Strand kühl und ungemütlich werden, sodass eine Liege am Pool eigentlich ganz nett gewesen wäre. Zumal in Arraial do Cabo von den Bars an den Stränden im Zusammenhang mit dem Sonnenschirmverleih fast immer nur Stühle und keine Liegen angeboten werden (Schirm mit Stühlen gibt es an der Praia dos Anjos kostenlos gegen Verzehr). Wenn es ins Gepäck reinpasst: Bei längerem Aufenthalt ist das Mitbringen von Windschutz wie Strandmuschel etc. empfehlenswert. ||||Arraial do Cabo ist ein nettes kleines Städtchen, das ganz überwiegend von brasilianischen Touristen frequentiert wird. Insofern wirkt alles noch recht ursprünglich. Wir empfanden den Ort als sehr sicher und sind auch im Dunkeln an weniger belebten Stellen unbehelligt unterwegs gewesen. Das soll aber nicht ermutigen, die üblichen Vorsichtsmaßnahmen außer...

We've recently stayed 4 nights at this pousada. We're used to staying at Hyatt/Hilton level and although its not as luxurious, this is definitely worth the money. ||It's extremely clean (including the bathroom), spacious, quiet, and quaint. ||I'd recommend paying the extra money for a balcony/higher floor. This pousada sits high and you have an awesome view of the city and ocean. ||The location is not as close to the beach as I wanted but its within walking distance (1/2 mile or so). Praia Grande, is by far the BEST beach in Arraial. its long, not commercialized, cleaner than all others, and has beautiful sunsets. We visited during the week of 4th of July and it was empty. the water was cold but bearable. Locals informed me that the party crowd shows up during the Brazilian Summer and Carnival. ||The area is safe, but not well lit at night. ||Breakfast is good, typical Brazilian with different juices, fruits, ham, cheese, jelly, cakes, and cereal.
