I stayed at this hotel solo for 2 nights after a group tour which ended in Rio, |as I wanted to see the Amazon. I booked it as I read that it was a 'luxury' boutique hotel in a great location, and I was aware of the reputation of Manaus not being too safe.||The positives - it is in a great location and has tasteful decor. I received communication from the hotel prior to my arrival asking if I wanted an airport transfer etc. Check in was efficient and I was able to extend my check out time for a fee. The porters were very helpful (on check in and check out) and some of the staff were friendly, especially the female receptionist who checked me out. There was a welcome bowl of fruit in my room on arrival (couldn't eat it as I was recovering from travellers' diarrhoea) and a voucher for a complimentary cocktail. My room was spacious with a very comfortable bed and functioning AC. The shower had good water pressure. Breakfast had a substantial selection and service was pleasant.||The negatives - 1) there were mould patches in the bathroom i.e. a biohazard, with a non-functioning extractor fan.|2) My room wasn't made up when I returned at 2.30pm. It wasn't clear if they forgot or if they start extremely late. I needed to make calls, charge my phone and shower again (due to the humidity) but had to sit in reception until it was done. I had to ask for the room to be made up. |3) The TV did not work - the instructions at the bedside referred to an LG remote, but the TV was Samsung (?) The technician came out and had to reconnect wires which had been pulled out. Why were they disconnected?|4) My wifi was abruptly terminated 24 hours before my check out time. When I tried to re-enter the access code I received a message stating that it had been given to another guest. This was highly irregular and suspicious. The receptionist was unable to explain why this happened but asked me how much longer I needed wifi! Being asked such a question was inappropriate to say the least. I had to tell him that I had PAID for the room and everything that comes with it. He issued another access code and I had functioning wifi until I left. ||Whilst the hotel is in a good location, is tastefully decorated and has a roof top pool and spa, they need to sort out the basics. Biohazards such as mould are wholly unacceptable and dangerous to people's health. Why would management allow such a matter to go unchecked and deem it acceptable for a paying guest to stay in such accomodation? The negatives I listed are certainly not what one expects from a so - called luxury hotel. Even though I did not expect a 5 star hotel in Manaus to be on par with the likes of the Fairmont, I did have a certain level of expectation, as it advertises itself as a luxury hotel. The fact that the basics (which are generally met by 3 star hotels) were not met is unacceptable, the price paid being unjustified. ||The tour I took from Buenos Aires to Rio de Janeiro (before I arrived in Manaus) used 4 star hotels and all of them were better...

Read moreWe were sadly disappointed with this hotel. Before noting what we didn’t like, I do want to say that all the staff was friendly and kind. I imagine the issues are more to do with management and decision that don’t make the guest feel that the hotel is generous and worth the value of being one of the priciest hotels in Manaus. I would particularly suggest that they offer free water to guests. Since guests are often just arriving in the Amazon, and need to hydrate and many prefer to brush teeth, etc with bottled water, it would be a simple service to offer. Also, we could not get more than lukewarm water in our room. I even had an upgraded room, which gave us a view of the Opera House, and was large, but very basic. The phone didn’t work to call down to the lobby for help, the restaurant was beautiful but very slow and overpriced. We ended up cancelling our stay for our final night on the other side of our boat trip into the Amazon, and instead book another hotel, but they would not refund our room (it was a non-refundable room, but we were really dissatisfied), but Expedia kindly did help me with this so we could finish our trip in another hotel. I’m sorry for the wonderful staff, but I think the hotel needs renovation, more services for guests, and especially more generosity for what...
