This was an experience of great highs and lows. We would not return to this resort. Positives first. The location is very convenient, less than ten minutes from the airport (about 30 mins from the city center, but if you plan to spend your time on the beach you can't beat it). The beach attached to the resort is beautiful and pleasant, with lots of vendors selling food, drinks, and trinkets. The pool is nice, with plenty of chairs and music always playing. However, there is no real poolside bar. The closest bar is way back by the hotel, and in any event you need to go inside to a busy kiosk to pay for a drink before you can order one (it's much better to just buy drinks from the vendors on the beach; they're cheaper, stronger, and larger). There's no poolside bathroom either, so plan on a hike to pee unless you have a poolside room. The dinner buffet is decent, kind of hit-or-miss, with some dishes being delicious and others mediocre. The breakfast buffet is very basic, the highlight being an omelette station. But don't expect five star food quality here by any stretch. All this was acceptable, but what will cause us not to return was the room itself. The room quality simply isn't worth the price. I'd expect to pay about half of what we paid for the quality of room and service we got. The furniture, floor, bathroom fixtures, sheets, etc., are all extremely basic, what you'd expect at a budget hostel. Our "king size bed" was actually two twin mattresses with a mattress pad wrapped around; the two mattresses were very different heights. It was quite uncomfortable. Our room key constantly stopped working. It just suddenly wouldn't open our door. This happened about 10 times during our four-night stay. Every time we'd need to return to the desk to get the key re-programmed. The resort claimed that our cell phones' magnetism caused this. I would have accepted this, except that our room was never cleaned throughout the day, leading me to suspect that the cleaning staff couldn't get the door open either. The staff seem to have simply ignored this problem and moved on to clean the next room. All three evenings when we returned to the room, it remained dirty and untouched. We had to pester the staff repeatedly to get the room cleaned-- the first night, we had to ask them three times and the room was finally cleaned around 9pm, after we'd have preferred to be in for the night. The second night, we returned quite late and chose to simply sleep in a dirty room (with beach sand in the sheets) rather than wait for them to clean it in the middle of the night. The third night, we complained angrily at the front desk around 6pm and finally got the room clean at a reasonable hour. We were offered no apologies for these issues, nor any discounts, not so much as a free cocktail. Nothing. I will admit that this was our first hotel experience in Brazil, so we are uncertain what standard to expect, but I would not pay this price for the service and quality that we received anywhere in the world. Our friends stayed down in Barra at a generic hotel, paid 60% of what we did, and their room was of a much more acceptable quality. Bottom line: unless you're getting a day pass for beach and pool access, I would...

Huge pros:
1.Great staff, warm and friendly, always helpful and smiling. Beautiful setting, among old coconut and palm trees, soft spawling lawns, beautiful woodwork, terracota roof and an putdoor area to die for!! Soothing ocean views:)) A cute animal farm for kids and kids at heart like me to entertain themselves..a family of 8 peacocks for that perfect Facebook picture! The best Brazilian breakfast buffet I have eaten! Sprawling swimming pool with fun water aerobics a few times a day. Very good Covid 19 measures in place: mandatory mask wearing in all common indoor areas and disposable gloves to touch all breakfast buffet common utensils. Barbara's masseuse right on the beach! What better vacation than getting an inexpensive full body right on the beach for $30/hour!!
CONS:
Management can be a bit inflexible and still not quite customer oriented. One occasion they accidentally broke an expensive bottle of whisky while transporting it to my room. Never took accountability for it. My issue they said. Just yesterday I booked directly with them to get a promised upgrade (despite having 500k airline miles I could freely use ) .. to be told I had to pay extra for it (which I did it since I wanted a closer ocean view). Hotel is in need of remodeling in all classes of rooms...balcony doors dont close, rust on faucets, old mattresses, old wooden on closets, tables and just an old outdated look all over the furniture..
So overall it all comes down to onr's preferences...the PROS for me are well worth the CONS....however that might not be the case for a lot of folks looking for a more stylish, sleek looking rooms..
I stay here whenever Im in town. Appreciate waking up in a quiet clean beach and just hang out...

I had a room with garden and ocean view and the bonus ( at least for me ) was the hammok from the balcony...very nice place to rest and reflect:). In this place you'll find spots for every taste: If you like the beach just go there. There are free sunbeds or, if you want, just lay on the sand. The beach is long and suitable for nice long walks. If you want a quiet place by yourself just go by the small pool situated on the edge of the resort and you'll find sun beds where you can lay without neighbours. If you wanna have fun just go by the big pool where the animation team will take care for everyone during the day: kids, adults, elders...no matter the age. It'll be fun :)). The location of the resort is also a plus. Is only 7km away from the airport. Just outside there are plenty of restaurants and 10 mns walk there is a big supermarket ( Hiperideal is the name). If you wanna go to Salvador de Bahia just grab a taxi (they are right on the exit of the resort). They will put the meter on and will charge you a fair price. Just trust them. If you wanna stay in Itapua, just go outside and loose yourself on the streets. You can taste the local street food. (my favourite was tapiocaria). But be aware: you might get a little extra weight!!:))) The brazilian cuizine is amazing. I give you a tip: try the local: ACARAJE. If you don't find it in the resort (there is a kiosk near the big pool) try outside at VIVI's or ask the locals.
Overall, I just loved my stay at Catussaba. The stuff is amazing, friendly and caring people!
I recomend it with...
