I have been going to Praia do Forte for many years and found in this small town a wonderful, quaint alternative for those longing for the Buzios of the 1980s. Really nice small beaches, an extraordinary ecosytem with options for snorkeling and whale watching, a pleasant town with no cars, and some decent restaurants.||But another attraction for me is staying at Refugio da Vila (this is my 4th time there), a very good contender for the warmest environment I found in many trips around the world. Breakfast may be the best in the world in my opinion (above Greek islands, Turkey, Paris, Rome, Prague, any US hotel and many other places). The variety of elegant home made cakes, pastries, local dishes and the exuberance of Brazilian fruits and juices are astonishing. The open and elegant living room, with little monkeys jumping in the nearby trees and running through the roof is pretty nice. The pool is outstanding (truly outstanding), and hanging out in the evening by the bar with a caipirinha and its magical illumination is a special experience. Rooms are comfortable and very nice, nothing extraordinary (not your routine Hilton) but if you are aiming for Northern Brazil, this is truly where...

Read moreLocated at only 3 minutes walk from the main street of Praia do Forte, Refugio da Vila is a peaceful green oasis in the middle of the city.||||We spent two weeks in Brazil, and Refugio da Vila was easily the best hotel we had the chance to visit.||||Room was nice, spacious enough for the 3 of us (a couple and a 3 year old child), with a direct access to the hotel's beautiful garden.||||Pool is relatively small, matching the size of this boutique hotel, and nicely set up, with a kid's pool that enjoys the shade of the hotel when the sun's at its hottest, which we greatly appreciated. No need to try to put additional sunscreen on an unwilling 3 y-o after noon.||||Breakfast buffet was amazing, and even if we didn't speak Portuguese and staff mostly spoke very little English, they did their utmost to explain to us what was on display, and offering us to cook the local tapioca crepes.||||If we return to Praia Do Forte someday, Refugio da Vila will definitely be our top pick. Forget about the humongous resorts on the outskirts of the city, this is the place where you...
