Together with my family (wife and daughter), we spent 4-days (from 16/11/23 until 20/11/23) at the accommodation. Our global experience in term of price/quality offered by the facility was very bad, despite the hotel being located in a very nice place, offering great view on the sea and mountains. We tried to discuss a compensation for the many problems we encountered but the hotel owners have shown no openness whatsoever, comforting even more our idea of bad customer management.
In summary, we could understand (at least part of the situation) if you pay (25-30% of the price) for an hostel advertised as such... but the pricing and (misleading?) advertising of the pousada are really a calamity and we would like to inform people to avoid having them suffer a similar situation when you pay a premium expecting to get a "dream service"...
In short: DON'T GO and a regulation should be put in place to forbid such commercial offer that do not reflect at all the reality of...
Read morea nice view and large rooms is probably all you will find here. it is well known that FdN is an expensive island but this must be one of the worst deal in town. common areas look like an abandoned field, the hotel is accessed from an undescriptive wooden gate with a simple metal chain. for the 4 days we were there discards from plant pruning were left in front of the gate. breakfast is average and served in the totally uncharming lobby. furniture around the huge lonely pool deck is old and dirty. we had insects in the bathroom and all over our food the first day. they disappeared once we complained. not impressive at euro 500 a night. staff is nice and helpful but they cannot make up for how poorly this place is managed. icing on the cake: we booked directly and only a few weeks before the trip. when we complained that the published rate at the hotel was well below our "discounted" rate, we received a totally unconsequential explanation. proposed airport transfers were also a rip off about 5 times a normal taxi and 3 times what other hotels charged. I am glad we knew better this time and did not use it. simply put stay at ze maria or teju acu...
Read moreOur stay at Solar de Loronha was very good. When you arrive there's a big wall with no sign on it, but once inside it's beautiful. A big swimming pool leads to cabins alongside the hill, and the sea and Morro do Pico as background. The Pousada is located in a very quiet zone uphill, but a 5-10 min walk from the busy center of Vila dos Remedios. Staff was a big part of our great experience. They are very friendly, ready to help you with anything you need. Being the fruit or juice you want for breakfast or special cakes they made, to getting you a guide for the hikes or tours. Room was very clean and AC worked very well, although be prepared to have some little visitors like geckos inside (you are in an island in the middle of the Atlantic, dont think you will not have them). Shower and toilet could be fancier, but they worked fine. It is a bit pricey but it was worthy, and in the same range as other Pousadas in the island with...
