This is the most fantastic place i ever stayed at! All rooms have a postcar view of the sugar loaf and a huge part of the city of Rio de Janeiro. The sunrise is spectacular and the sunset can be enjoyed on the huge rooftop terrace. Each room has a clean shower and bathroom and their own balcony with views of the city and the sugar loaf (and the garden, where bananas and coconuts grow, and i even saw humming birds from my varanda!)
I felt absolutely safe in the favela, more safe than on the city streets. The people there are so friendly, when you get lost on the way they always help! There is a great restaurant only 50m from the pousada (also inside the favela), the ABCD restaurant. Highly recommended. Breakfast ist served at the hostel, and it´s delicious.
The owners give advice on anything you can do in Rio, and they can also organize a driver if you need one. I actually walked from the hostel to the Christ statue (which is on the same mountain ridge).
Lapa, where most of the night clubs and bars in Rio are, is only a 10 minutes bus ride down the hill. It is easy to reach back home. But remember, you always have to walk a few minutes from the bus stop/the street. But in the favela you hear no cars, no street noise, only birds and dogs :) It is so relaxing, like a holiday in a holiday, when you come back from the crowded streets or the full beaches :)
The location is convenient, up the hill you are in the city center (or Lapa) in no time, down the hill you are in walking distance of Metro station Largo do Machado, and then on to the beaches.
A wonderful place where i like to come back soon (i wanted to stay 3 days, but did stay 10 at the end, sooooo nice atmosphere)!
Thanks to Neia and Gabriel and everyone in the favela (i don´t remember all...

Its located in literal favela, we choose there to have the experience it for 3 day (my bf is brasillian and im foreigner). After the drive u have to climb the hills like 10 min in the neighborhood and the directions are not direct at all in first moment i felt like a maze... since its in santa teresa, finding uber or 99 is pretty hard and it was quite expencive always. Breakfast was ok, with sugarloaf view but in our room, since they didnt trim the trees it wasnt possible the see it. Its only visible from common area.. after we realised that there are bugs, at least the lady helped us and changed the room but still me and my bfs legs are covered w bites and pretty painful ones that i had to go to several DOCTORS and having to wash my clothes was other disaster. Also every forniture is quite old to use, in room and in the kitchen. There were always music in middle of the night coming from the neighborhood. The cat piss and poops in literally every corner and no one cleans so everywhere was smelling cat piss? The view is really cool but sorry, i dont recommend it to anyone. If u dont wanna pay lots of money to transportation (which theres only one line to goes centro from there) just stay in centro or copacabana, thats the only recomendation that i can give it to the tourists. There were cheaper and CLEANER options in the downtown. I've been to almost 40 countires in different continents and this place was the only one that i felt horrible. I just feel like i wasted my...
Read moreThe guy who works there was kind enough to meet me at the top of hill and helped me with my bag and walked me through the daunting favela. The accommodations are basic but that’s not what you’re there for. You’re there for the view, simple as that. It’s absolutely incredible. The experience of staying in a favela in a relatively safe circumstance is not one you’ll come across too often with out knowing anyone. I wasn’t able to get food so late but I was able to get some booze and water. That certainly enhanced the view and experience. Now on the way out your on your own and that could be very intimidating. The people weren’t pleased to see me there and despite being totally vulnerable with all my gear I didn’t...
